Car offered at:
www.coys.co.uk/showrooms.php

Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Competition "Lightweight"
Registration Number: 5 WPD
Chassis Number: 860392

We are proud to be offering for sale for the first time in over two decades one of the most successful Jaguar E-Type historic competition racing cars of the modern era. Prepared and developed in its current ownership regardless of cost, 5 WPD is a multi-Goodwood, multi-Tour Auto Competitor, with numerous other international historic events to its credit, and is a lap record holder at Silverstone.

860392 was built to works lightweight specification by racecar preparation experts Jon Beck Cars some 25 years ago using a combination of original and post production lightweight parts. The original parts including the front suspension, torsion bars, front anti roll bar, header tank and radiator, exhaust manifolds and complete rear suspension cage that they were sourced from the lightweight E-Type racer 503 BBO that competed at Le Mans in 1962 driven by John Coundley and Maurice Charles.

The engine was acquired from another important historic race car as it was reportedly fitted to the
E-Type belonging to John Lewis that won the 1987 Historic Racing Championship driven by Roger Mac. An accomplished racing unit, it has a wet sump, triple Weber carburettors and an aluminium cylinder head. The gearbox is a Jaguar 4-Speed close ratio transmission as will be fitted to most historic racers. The differential is fitted with an oil cooler and the lightweight hard top is an original period Jaguar item made from aluminium.

The Jaguar is supplied with older FIA papers and is ready to compete. We are assured that this is an incredibly fast, balanced and fine handling car to race and was considerably faster than other lightweight E-Types. That it is a comfortable car is demonstrated by its completing 24 hr races - not many E-types can make the same claim.

The current owner has competed extensively with great success in this car including the 24 hrs at Paul Ricard in 1998, the Goodwood Revival in 2000, the Coys Historic Festival in 1999 and 2000, where a new lap record was set which we are told still stands to this day, and the Tour Auto on a number of occasions including in 1995 with well-known racer Win Percy as co-driver.

Car to return to auction 7/15

Auction description:
Lot 169 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-litre Semi-Lightweight
Estimate: £210,000 - £230,000

The car we are proud to be offering for sale is one of the most successful Jaguar E-type historic competition racing cars of the modern era. Prepared and developed in its current ownership by the late and highly regarded Roger Dowson Engineering at Silverstone Circuit. 5 WPD is a Goodwood TT/ Tour Auto competitor with numerous other international historic events to its credit, and is a lap record holder at Silverstone.

The current owner has competed extensively with great success in this car: with the great Win Percy, he competed in the all E-Type RAC TT Celebration races at Goodwood, at which time he defeated perhaps the most famous lightweight of all, 4 WPD. Also with Win Percy he has taken part in the International Super Prix - the 3 hour endurance race - and the Coys Historic Festival in 1999 and 2000, where a new lap record was set which we are told still stands to this day. Other notable achievements include the Tour Auto with ex-Formula One pilot Erik Comas; the Deux Tours d'Horloge 24 hour race; the Dijon 3 hours Grand Prix Historique; and the 24 hours at Paul Ricard.
