    This is the 363rd RHD matching numbers E Type S1 3.8 FHC manufactured by Jaguar on 30 March 1962 and which still retains its original registration number 617EFJ. Jaguar dealers Babbacombe Garages of Torquay sold this Opalescent Gunmetal E Type with a Red interior on 17 April 1962, over 60 years ago, to Mr F C Durbin, an orthopaedic surgeon who has the Durbin ward at Exeter Hospital named after him. Tony Jackson of Kennington, Oxfordshire, owner of John Rogers Jewellers in Oxford acquired the car in 1968. He didn't drive it much and it was taken off the road in 1973.

    About 35 years later Tony Jackson asked a neighbour to restore it for him in his garage. In 2011 Neville Swales purchased the E Type and continued the restoration until 2012 when he sold the car. It was sold again in 2013 and the purchaser commissioned P and K Thornton in Nottingham to complete the assembly and rebuild of this very early E Type. Upgrades were fitted including a 5 speed gearbox, with its original Moss box retained, new Dayton 15x6 wire wheels with Dunlop SP sports tyres, full stainless steel exhaust system, electric radiator fan, Coopercraft 4 pot front calipers, E Type S3 rear calipers and hi torque starter.

    Since completion it has been used sparingly. It was judged best Coupe by the Jaguar Drivers Club of South Staffordshire in 2020. It has a substantial accompanying history file including many photographs and invoices, its original green log book and Jaguar Heritage certificate confirming its originality.
