1964 Jaguar E Type Series I 3.8 Lightweight - FIA papers

Originally delivered on 17th January 1964 to Henlys of London, this ‘64 Series 1 E-Type is modified to lightweight specification which has just been completed by specialists Tester Engineering, who are well known for their work and racing in the historic Jaguar world. 850813 is finished in the Briggs Cunningham colours of white with a blue stripe to replicate the original car which was raced by the Cunningham team. The build quality and finish is described by the vendor as ‘simply superb’ and boasts a lightweight body consisting of an alloy bonnet, boot, hardtop, doors, rear wings and internal panelling but retaining its steel tub for strength.

Fitted with a completely rebuilt 3.8 engine running 45DCOE’s and producing around 320 bhp with the help of forged racing pistons, light weight flywheel, full race cam shafts, ported and polished gas flowed head and fully balanced. Power is fed through a triple plate AP clutch putting power through Dunlop square hole racing wheels. A full engine spec is available and we are informed the motor will easily rev to 7,500 rpm.

Other features include a Powerlok differential, alloy fuel tank with Monza type filler, electric fire extinguisher, FIA safety harnesses and FIA roll cage. Period leather trimmed bucket seats complete the race-spec interior.

The car is supplied with a V5 document, an MoT certificate valid until May 2010, a Heritage Trust certificate, FIA papers and based on the correct 3.8 Series 1 roadster chassis, the car is eligible for many historic race series throughout the world and is on the button and ready to be raced in anger.

This semi lightweight was built from a 1964 RHD 3.8 E Type Convertible by Tester Engineering to most competitive semi lightweight specifications. The car was completed around 2008 and has been raced by just two owners since. The car has been fine tuned by the who's who of the Historic Racing fraternity. Within this timeframe well in excess of £300,000 has been spent on the car to bring it to the front running specification it is in today. Following a racing accident in 2012 the car was totally stripped and rebuilt following which the car went on to race successfully in the UK and all over Europe and on the Tour Auto.

The current owner acquired the car in 2015 and over the past four seasons has further pushed the development of the car with engine, gearbox and axle rebuilds. It is noted in the file for the car, with dyno sheets, that the engine is very strong indeed. In the hands of the current owner the car often won its class in the highly competitive Jaguar Challenge and has seen itself on the overall podium a number of times in other series. I owned this car from 1972 to 1981 - and apart from having to replace rusted sills, floor pans, door skins and eventually the bonnet, loved every minute of it. I believe it was light metallic blue originally but had been resprayed maroon when I first bought it. Later on I had it resprayed again to carmine red. Other work I did was to swap the old Moss gearbox for the later all synchro, close ratio pattern as fitted to early 4.2 litre models.
