I am the current owner of 850227 and she is now registered in Monaco as X709. The registration 863 FAY is retained on the UK list and I have the original tax disc from 1961 with this number in the car! I drive her very frequently as I am a great believer that cars are so much more reliable when used and she never disappoints. She has a factory hardtop. Rebuilt to concours winning standard with several show wins in the Uk she is now an older restoration with a great patina and a lived in feel but still in great condition. I will add some pictures of her as she is now.

Classified Add on e-bay:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-Series-1-3-8-Roadster-Flat-Floor/232692270796
This E-Type Series 1 3.8 Flat Floor Roadster RHD was manufactured 19th October 1961 and despatched to Henleys London on 30th October.
The Heritage Certificate tells us that this is a genuine UK supplied car with matching numbers and was originally Opalescent Dark Green with Suede Green trim and a French Grey hood.
The car has a very interesting history since its restoration in the early 80's which is supported by a large file of photographs & documents:
Late 1970's Bought as a wreck for restoration.
1980/81 Restored by Classic Cars of Coventry & colour changed to Red / Black. Correspondence including invoices & photographs.
Autumn 1985 Featured in Supercar Classics magazine - copy in file.
1986. Featured at NEC Classic Car Show on JDC stand. Photographs in file.
August 1990. Midlands JDC winner for originality, photographs of judging & JDC Certificate.
Featured on BBC Top Gear, driven by William Heynes CBE & Christopher Jenkins at Jaguar Browns Lane. Photographs of filming at Browns Lane with William Heynes behind the wheel. Copy of letter from William Heynes.
When the car first arrived with us it was a very tidy (as can be seen from the images) good driving car, so we were undecided whether to restore it or not. Consequently it has remained in our showroom pending a decision. It is now clear that due to our workload we will not be able to restore it for a considerable time so we have decided to offer it for sale as it is, including some recommissioning work to be agreed with the purchaser.
This is probably the most desirable, sought after and fastest appreciating E-Type model of all. It represents a significant opportunity to acquire a highly collectable car that will not only be a pleasure to own but is also a true investment grade vehicle.

Registration no. 863 FAY

The Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale
* One of the earliest surviving right-hand drive roadsters
* Delivered new in the UK
* Matching chassis, engine, and registration numbers
* An older restoration
Dating from the first few weeks of production, this stunning example is one of the earliest surviving right-hand drive Jaguar E-Type roadsters (the chassis number sequence commenced at '850001') and was sold via Henlys Limited, London to first owner Miss E Roberts of London W2. Chassis number '850227' was despatched from the works on 14th October 1961 and was originally finished in Opalescent Dark Green with Suede Green interior trim and French Grey soft-top.
By March 2010, the E-Type was registered in Monaco in the ownership of Mr Peter J Bentley, who drove the car regularly to keep it in good running condition. Email correspondence on file confirms that '863 FAY' is the original registration number, and Mr Bentley goes on to say that the E-Type had been rebuilt to concours winning standard with several show wins in the UK, including the Midlands JDC Concours (for originality). In his estimation, the car was 'an older restoration with a great patina and a lived in feel but still in great condition'.
Further email correspondence reveals that '850227' had been purchased as a restoration project in the late 1970s and restored by Classic Cars of Coventry in 1980/1981, its colour scheme being changed to the present red/black in the process. This E-Type has also been displayed on the JDC's stand at the NEC Classic Car Show, appeared on BBC Television's Top Gear programme, and been featured in Supercar Classics magazine (Autumn 1985 edition). On Top Gear, the E-Type was driven at Jaguar's Brown's Lane works by the company's former Technical Director and Vice Chairman, William Heynes CBE.
Representing a wonderful opportunity to own the most desirable of all E-Type models, '863 FAY' comes with the optional works-specification hardtop, sundry restoration invoices, UK V5C registration document, and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirming matching numbers.
