Car to be at auction 10/17
    www.mossgreen.com.au/m/lot-details/index/catalog/354/lot/134146/1961-JAGUAR-E-TY ...

    Auction description:
    The Motorclassica Auction(#158MG) 14/10/2017 6:00 PM AEDT
    Lot 29 of 54: 1961 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 1 3.8 OTS 'FLAT FLOOR'

The 100th produced E-Type roadster & single family ownership for 43 years

    Chassis No: 850101
    Engine No: R1641-9

This well-known South Australian car, one of purportedly 942 built in RHD, was built as an open two-seater, right hand drive on 6 September 1961 and originally despatched to Henley's London on 18 September, 1961 to a Mr. L S Norman. It is believed the subsequent owner was Mr. Antony Harry, a well-known Adelaide lawyer. He owned the car until 1969 when it became the property of a young Peter Graham-Sutton for two years. He was believed to have sold it to Country and Western singer Johnny Mac before it finally came to rest in the ownership of South Australian motor racing identity Dick Rymill in 1974, where it has stayed within his family ownership for 43 years.

According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate Chassis No: 850101 was delivered with Pearl Grey paintwork with a red interior trim and a black cloth soft top. The car shows the patina of an earlier restoration and the colour has been changed to Indigo (Midnight) Blue. It has triple SU carburettors and wire wheels. Auspiciously, the chassis number 850101 indicates this car is the 100th Series 1 E-type delivered in RHD and one of the illustrious and highly sought after 'Flat Floor' models. The car retains its original Smiths instruments; interior dashboard fittings and steering wheel. The odometer reading is currently approx. 16,643 miles and the car will be accompanied with its fold down roof and hardtop.

The rare flat floor right-hand drive Series 1 E-Type is a legendary model and together with its long held Australian tenure and family ownership for 43 years, this car presents a marvellous opportunity for a Jaguar collector to acquire one of the grandest and most famous E-types across all the prized Jaguar sporting cars.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
