Tom Haddock (E-type restoration guide author) writes in the July '80 issue of Ejag magazine that this car is on his register of early cars.

E-Type Chassis No.: 850055 is owned by me: Peter Hugo of my company WinSpeed Motorsport. It possess all matching numbers including its UK Registration Number: YDP 2. It is finished in its original body colour of Imperial Maroon, but now with Beige interior trim rather than its original Maroon. Restored in the mid Eighties, it is now being correctly recommissioned, but with certain necessary upgrades, all of which are reversible to original specification.

My son and I acquired YDP2 on the 9th June, 2014. The earliest published photo we have located to date is when YDP2 appeared at the Jaguar New Forest Rally in 1973 when owned by David Tharne. Its colour then had been changed to blue. Later repainted Imperial Maroon, but not completely restored. Condition of car is such that it does not as yet require a complete restoration. If anyone has any details of ownship between 1961 and 1973 please contact us.

Referring to Hugh Palmer's comments. The photo I think he is referring to is on p.16 of Jaguar Driver magazine, June 1973, It is a frontal view of the car and the caption says that the car is metallic dark blue and was rescued from the scrap-heap! Only 12 years old then.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
