My first XKE. Love it. But I'm going to spend the winter taking it apart and putting in all the good stuff.

Ebay item 11/12/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Jaguar-XKE-US-model-LOW-MILES-Unmolested-original-/ ...
Current bid $20,000, no reserve, 28 bids 8 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This is an unrestored 1971 Series 3 coupe. The body is what's known as a "10 foot car". It looks great from 10 feet away. The paint is starting to wear thin in some spots, and the chrome bumpers have some pitting. The interior is in good shape except for the seat bottoms, which have dry rotted and will need to be replaced. There are no dents or dings, the body is straight and tight, and to my knowledge has never been crashed. I purchased this car in 2008 from a dealer's private collection.

The air conditioning has been removed for better performance, but comes with the car. This car was subjected to a year long mechanical refurbishment in 2009. Engine and transmission were removed from the car and rebuilt, including new valves. The wheels have had new bearings installed. The brakes are in excellent condition, as is the steering. I spent over $10,000 getting this car to run perfectly and not leak a single drop of fluids. Front and rear engine seals have been replaced. New digital fuel pump that looks identical to the old mechanical unit has been installed for reliability, as well as an electronic ignition system. The hot air crossover pipe has been removed, as well as the internal butterflies on the EX/EM intake manifold. The Zenith Stromberg carburetors have been tested and adjusted as needed .All electrical systems work as they should, and oil pressure, oil temp and water temp are spot on, even during the hottest days.A full tuneup was done during the restoration.

As I prefer to drive my cars, I spent all my money on the mechanicals and suspension, and left the cosmetics alone. This car starts on a dime every time, blows no smoke, handles as an XKE should (I installed 4 new Bridgestone Potenza tires). Even with the not-so-hot Stromberg carbs this car has excellent torque and is very quick . It's a blast to drive. Custom wheel made for me by MotoLita to duplicate original, but 2" smaller in diameter. Original wheel comes with the car.

If you are looking for a car you can get into and go without worrying about fuel pump failure, electric failure or any other mechanical failure, this is it. It needs some TLC (and paint), but is mechanically excellent.

I have put less than a thousand miles on the car since I bought it. I just do not have the time to drive it any more, and I have a small collection of other exotics that need looking after (and driving). Since my children do not want this car I am putting it up for sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
