    Sellers comment;
    This car was purchased new at the Portland Jaguar dealership by a local doctor in early '72. At some point in the late eighties after traveling 52,384 miles it developed a bearing noise in the gearbox. The engine and gearbox were removed and the gearbox was disassembled. The doctor's son owned a well known but now defuct British car repair shop, he did all of the work. I don't know the details of why it was never put back together, but it was eventually sold in it's present condition. I've known about the car for at least ten years I can remember, it is my understanding that only operator of this car was the first owner. The car is still in remarkable condition. It's always been garaged and it shows. The paint is still presentable but not perfect. The car has zero rust and shows no signs of collision damage. The chrome is the best original I've ever seen. The leather is still soft and the interior even smells good. The panel is flawless with no cracks etc. and still contains the original radio. The carpet is excellent with just one small hole in the drivers footwell. The headliner is the only thing I would replace, it's deteriorating. I really think you would de-value this car doing any cosmetic work to it. There are many "restored" cars around, but they're only original once. The disassembly was very orderly. The fasteners have been bagged and marked, the parts carefully packed. Most of the accesories and brackets have been cleaned and or painted. The carburators have been rebuilt. It is my understanding the engine (7S3444SA) ran well when it was removed, and the work that has been done is mainly of a cosmetic nature. The gearbox as you will notice in the photos is completely apart. Everything looks really nice, I planned to just replace the bearings and sychros. I have not photographed all of the parts that have been removed from the car, but I have done a thorough inventory. The only missing items I've found are as follows: Flywheel, pressure plate, driven disc, release bearing. I can't of course guarantee there aren't some other little things missing, but I don't think so. I'm sure there are some of you reading this description that have some iron American engine out in your shop that you'd like to put in this car. This one is really too nice to suffer such indignity. So, if this is your plan just don't tell me about it. It is my hope this car will find an owner who will preserve her as well as the first one did. I really don't want to sell her, but I have an XK120 project ravaging my bank account.

    The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

    What disease did Lucas succumb to?
