Ebay item 8/27/13

Current bid $20,000 reserve not met 1 bid 3 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar XKE series III 2+2 Survivor- 37,000 miles 4 speed.

vin is 1S71405

You are bidding on a 1971 Jaguar that is basically untouched, the odometer displays 37,175 miles and they are original as per the owner and our records. This e-type had 35,700 miles on it per paperwork 12 years ago in 2001.

This car is in amazing and original condition, has original interior that has been kept ply-able and clean. The original wheels have no visible rust. This car runs well and drives very well, but we did not want to restore it because we didn't want to mask the originality of the car.

The 4 speed transmission works as designed, the car drives straight and all the lights work, in fact it still has the original Lucas sealed beams in it and all original chrome. We did not highway test the car and we are selling it as is. We recognize that some buyers want to see the car as it is and do whatever level of restoration they feel justified. We are a restoration shop but we appreciate untouched cars and we have decided to let this car go as is.

We do not recommend using or driving this car unless the brake system is checked fully and the engine cooling system is flushed and hoses checked. We recommend a good radiator flush and engine bay cleaning. The brake fluid looks old, lines look good, pads look newer.

We did not clean this car...The interior is amazingly well preserved, the rugs are original, the passenger rug has something stained on it - refer to the pictures, but it is hidden under the seat basically. Headliner is good, may have been redone but it seems too good to be original. The seats seem to be re-dyed in places but not completely, the rear seat has a mark on it from something left on it during storage. The rear hardura is all very good and original, as well as the wheel arch coverings all very good.

Other more specific notes:
included are the original owners manual, the original passport to service book, the original electrical guide poster, the original lube chart all in very good condition.

this car had a full service prior to being stored only 20 miles earlier but it has been a few years. New tune up, filters etc.

this car has air conditioning, it does not work, we didn't ck it.. the compressor seems free, and it probably needs freon

the car has new Michelin tires, basically Un-driven on - and still un cracked, in very safe condition.

the wheels are all original wheels and are in very very good condition

the engine sounds great , runs well... but we did not road test it or do fluids

the fuel is flushed, clean and the tank and fuel pump is fine.

the transmission sounds good shifts well, seems fine

the clutch works well, no chatter, seems fine

the paint on the car seems original, but the drivers side cowl seems redone, maybe from a broken or snapped door check repair?

the battery is brand new- alternator charges fine.

the radio is obviously not original

the car has wax type rust preventative all over the jambs and the under bonnet. that may be why it has no rust, but the wax substance should be carefully removed.

this car is sold with a Connecticut Registration and paperwork, but since we did not fully test it it is as is. we are a Jaguar Repair Facility and we know these cars, we are going to leave this one to the buyer to decide.

this one is special, this car should be preserved. Do not buy a car that needs to be completely restored, Buy a car with low mileage and that has not been taken apart or changed. This is that car. this is the one to keep.

There are v12 e-type 2+2 Jaguars for sale all the time, but not like this, few have a 4 speed and air conditioning, and rarely in this original condition.

So if you want a low mileage survivor, this is the one.

4-Speed Manual Gearbox

This 1971 Jaguar XKE is a 2+2 Series III coupe equipped with a 5.3L V12 linked to a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was reportedly purchased new in Ontario and spent time in Connecticut prior to its acquisition by the seller in 2013 and subsequent relocation to Delaware. Approximately 8k miles have been added under current ownership, and maintenance included carburetor rebuilds, a new ignition system, fresh tires, and rear brake refreshment. This XKE car recently passed a Delaware emissions test and is offered with records from current ownership and a clean Delaware title in the seller's name.

The Series III XKE came standard with power steering and featured a 105-inch wheelbase and a larger front grille than earlier XKE models. This example wears a white finish. The seller describes paint imperfections as well as pitting of the chrome on the bumpers.

Chrome wire wheels are equipped with correct earless spinners and Dunlop SP50 tires date coded from 2013. The rear brake calipers, rotors, and pads were replaced during the seller's ownership.

The 2+2 cabin is trimmed in red leather with matching carpets, sill covers, and door panels. Late-model rocker switches are retained in the dash, and an aftermarket stereo has been installed. Just over 45k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, approximately 8k of which were added by the seller. The air conditioning system is said to work well.

The 5.3L V12 is coupled with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Maintenance during the seller's ownership included installation of a new ignition system as well as rebuilds of all four Zenith carburetors. The air pump has been removed, and an oil leak is noted.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
