Current bid $12,000.00 (Reserve met), 13 bids, 8 days left in auction. Car is now located in Danielsville, Georgia.

Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar XKE V-12 5.3 Liter. This is car #294, a very early production of the new V-12 powered E-Type. Lots of new and rebuilt mechanicals. This is the third Jag I have restored, but life moves on and I no longer have time for this hobby. The car can be driven right now as is.

HISTORY: Car is titled in Texas but is now located in Georgia. I have records on the car beginning with the second owner in 1983 including service receipts etc., the third owner (who I bought it from on Ebay!) was in North Carolina, he and I always kept the car garaged. I have owned the car for three years and have only driven it 1000 miles, mostly testing newly installed parts. Original color was British Racing Green.

RECENT RESTORATION: I replaced the original engine (available separately), which had a broken timing chain, with a 40,000 mile engine purchased from Welsh Jaguar. This engine was removed from a car rear ended and parted out by Welsh. It was removed by Welsh and purchased by me the same week it was wrecked. All hoses, clamps, belts, water pump, motor mounts, exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts, starter, throttle and choke cables, power steering pump are new or rebuilt. Transmission was purchased from Classic Jaguar. They are a top of the line restoration company. New clutch, bearings, gaskets, rubber shift boot, speedometer cable, etc. replaced when installed. The "Reserve Price" for this auction is in the "Driver (barely)" value range! ($9-12,000) Floor pans have been professionally replaced and welded (not riveted) in place. Great Hella H4 quartz headlamps. New ignition wires, distributor cap, rotor button, spark plugs, correct ignition system, air cleaners, door locks, barrel cup castings, door hinges, chrome window winders. Alloy wheels are from a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 Series III, tires are Pirelli P4000 SuperTouring (149 mph certified V-rated) still have plenty of tread. You can have the original steel wheels and chrome hubcaps with new, but not performance, Roadmaster tires. New fuel tank, sending unit and electric fuel pump. Rebuilt brake master cylinder. Custom exhaust, not new but in good condition. Radiator cleaned, new header tank, new otter (radiator fan control) switch, dual electric fans.

ITEMS INCLUDED IN AUCTION: I have quite a few parts that have not yet been installed. Examples: New rubber floor mats, new chrome fender strips, new heater box, new front lower air scoop ( I bent the old one driving it up on a trailer), new V-12 emblem, hard to find rear air vent, rubber pedal covers, good used starter, gaskets and other small parts.

WHAT IT STILL NEEDS: The paint is not as good as it looks in the pictures. Surface prep was very poor. I was going to repaint it red but thought if a purist buys it they would want to return it to BRG. The interior is complete but needs to be replaced, complete interiors are available from a number of vendors. The (factory!) air conditioner has a recent new compressor, new reciever/drier, some new hoses, but needs a new expansion valve. I was going to replace this when the interior was removed for replacement. System has been pressure tested. The instruments need to have their electrical terminals cleaned. The tach and oil pressure gauge work most of the time, tapping brings them back, oil pressure warning light fully operational. The clock is getting power but doesn't run. A tune up would be a good idea since it has been a while. Chrome parts are getting worn and need to be rechromed. Parking brake cable is new but I think a bolt has fallen out of the linkage so the parking brake is not working. Heater core needs to be cleaned and then can be reinstalled in the new heater box. I sent the power steering pump to be rebuilt and foolishly drained the old PS fluid out of the steering rack without replacing it with fresh fluid and the seals dried out. So now it is about half manual half power steering. It is safely drivable and the seals are tighter than they were (it doesn't leak out, just leaks past the internal seals so it doesn't get enough pressure), but it needs to be rebuilt or you can purchase a complete rebuilt unit from Welsh for about $425. Probably about a 4 hour job with no special tools or skills needed. The factory option rear window defroster works but the wire is pulled loose. It had an old, not original 8-track player that I threw away, so it needs a new radio.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
