Increasingly stringent US impact and emission regs in what was Jaguar's largest and most vital foreign currency earning export market added weight and reduced performance on the E Type S2 4.2. The Coventry manufacturer was therefore forced to come up with a solution. Their totally new 5.3-litre 272bhp 12-cylinder power unit virtually filled the underbonnet area of a new, clearly much more powerful and, more importantly, a cleaner replacement S3 roadster and 2+2 coupe. The new E Type with its distinctive cross-hatch rad grille had power steering as standard, auto-shift and air-con being standard spec on the fixed head.
The vendor of this claimed to have been driven 48,200 miles from new in 1973 Series 3 E Type Jaguar with fixed head coupe bodywork, providing 2+2 accommodation, tells us that body and paintwork in yellow and black interior are well presented, and the 5.3-litre V12 engine and transmission are very good.
We understand that the history file contains Jaguar handbook and service booklet, various bills and photos charting work carried out, several old MOTs and a current test certificate to May of next year - and, following what was described as having been a full rebuild to concours standard, a 1989 valuation certificate for ú30,000. A successful bidder might just be able to land this classic E Type for a considerable saving today!

Hammer value £13,000
Description Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 FHC
Registration GFW 538L
Year 1973
Colour Primrose Yellow
Engine size 5,343 cc
Dating from 1973, this particular V12 Automatic has been in the current ownership since 2002. Looking most appealing in Primrose Yellow with a black hide interior, chromed steel wheels and white band tyres it has covered just 48,000 miles from new and comes with an extensive service history and photo record of remedial works carried out. Due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, it is said to drive beautifully and looks excellent value at the guide price suggested today.

Car to return to auction 6/14
classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 0
Estimate £15,000 - £20,000
Description Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 Coupe
Registration GFW 538L
Year 1973
Colour Primrose Yellow
Engine size 5,343 cc
Chassis No. 1S51709BW
Engine No. 7S8610SA

First registered in March 1973 (and thus tax exempt under the new regulations), this particular Primrose Yellow Automatic Coupe was supplied new by Marshalls of Lincoln to first owner Mr J Mansbridge of the same town. The car comes with a sizeable history file and some 20 old MOTs back to 1980 to warrant that the 49,000 miles on the clock is the genuine distance covered from new.

In 1989 the car was fully restored to what was claimed to be 'concours condition' with many bills and photographs on file charting the process. Other bills show regular upkeep in the 25 years since, during which time the car has only covered some 5,000 miles. The current owner acquired the car four years ago and has used it only sparingly throughout this time, treating it to a full brake overhaul with new front calipers etc. in December 2012 when the carbs were also tuned.

Supplied with all its original handbooks with tax until the end of August and MOT until mid-September, the car is said to drive well and certainly bowled along nicely when we were treated to a short test drive on the occasion of our visit with good oil pressure and temperature and notably strong brakes.
