British racing green with cinnamon leather interior.

Engine: V12, 5,343cc, 272bhp at 5,850rpm, Stromberg carburettors; Gearbox: four speed manual with overdrive; Brakes: four wheel discs; Suspension: front, independent, wishbones, torsion bars, anti-roll bar, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers, rear, independent, wishbones, radius arms, fixed length drive shafts, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers. Right hand drive.

This example on offer was first registered in November 1972 and was first sold through a Leicester dealership to a Mr Slater. The vehicle ownership can be traced through the log book and shows only three from new. The current mileage is 68,690 and this can be verified through the original service dealer book (stamped up to 1980 at 49,000 miles) and the subsequent MoT certificates. There are a number of bills dating from 1990 where work included attention to the rear panels, brakes and suspension amounting to (3,400.

The car generally seems a nice original example which reflects its low mileage and only three owners from new. It is finished in a highly attractive shade of british racing green and a former owner was a member of the Jaguar Drivers club. It comes with its original service dealer book and service wallet, a maintenance chart, operating maintenance and service handbook and the Jaguar statement of build.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
