Ebay item 5/21/12
photobucket.com/1969JaguarAlexzlion

There has been a lot of extra work done on this car as I had meant to keep this, not sell it...like painting the mud shields, removing and painting the vacuum reservoir, overflow tank, re-maint the fan shroud with the proper crackle finish, paint the fan housings and mounts, cleaning the fan blades of 43 years of road grime, polishing the intake manifold, cleaning all chrome trim...the car does have all it's original chrome...not rechromed yet.

I believe this to be a matching numbers car as the body number, picture frame number, engine number all match the plate. I just have not checked the transmission number...but the engine appears to never have been removed..so I am assuming the tranny is original. And with only 70k, it does not seem to have had a reason to be out as the venerable 4.2 can last over 100k easily.

A lot of work has been done on the car preparing it for a long reliable life ahead...and most of the Heavy Lifting has already been done:

1. Paint and any rust removal. The car was surprisingly rust free. The only areas were two spots behind the rear wheels...the whole lower qtrs were replaced so rust could never be an issue there. Ands the battery tray which was replaced with a new XK's Un-ltd part. The rockers did not have any rust. And the floors were not the usual Flintstones mobile look. The paint was removed as the original owner painted it Sable Brown over it's original Jaguar Green. So, this was removed and BRG was sprayed with a high gloss hardener added. All windows (the windshield remained as there was concern over possible cracking in removal), chrome, window frames were removed as was the interior of the car. The windshield seal was "roped" sop that paint would get behind it and be sealed by the gasket. The paint looks very nice and gets thumbs up and smiles, but is not a concours job it has a bit too much orange peel for my taste (I am picky I guess) I got a quote from a top quality body shop in town for $300 to buff it out...so I am reducing my reserve by $500 to compensate for the new owner.

2. all weatherstripping has been replaced, (the windshield rubber had been replaced just prior to my getting the car), rear window seal, rear hatch seal, qtr window seals, door seals, rocker seals, window frame seals, outer door window seals, bonnet (hood) seal, and front and rear bumper to body seals.

3. New fuel pump and fule hoses

4. new sediment fuel filter

5. rebuilt carbs with the more reliable, new diaphrams and expensive Grosse valves

6. new spark plugs

7. new spark plug wires

8. new distributor cap

9. new rotor

10. new Pertronix electronic ignition

11. new Pertronix electronic ignition coil

12. New upper and lower ball joints

13. New upper and lower Urethane A-arm bushings (the expensive kinds)

14. new front urethane sway bar insulators

15. new tie rod ends and rack boots

16. new front brake rotors, rebuilt fromt calipers with new pistons as needed, new pads

17. new radiator foam sealing pad

18. new master cylinder and reaction valve

19. new brake hoses

20. heater box removed, disassembled, cleaned and repainted

21. new coolant hose kit installed, radiator, heater and bypass hoses

22. new oil sending unit

23. new sending unti panel gasket on fuel tank

24. new fuel tank sump gasket

26. gas tank cleaned and painted

27. door hinge bushings refitted

28. new intermediate exhaust pipes

29. wheel wells fornt and rear undercoated

30. oil and filter changed

31. new air filter

32. antifreeze changed

Interior:
1. New dash cover

2. new headliner (will give buyer any extra material left over from supplier)

3. New OEM rubber Jaguar mats

4. New brake and clutch rubber pedal pads

5. New burled wood center gauge panel (I will include the factory black vinyl panel with car)

6. Interior panels covered and panels as needed (will include roll of excess material with car in case new owner needs a future repair or wants to make matching speaker boxes, etc)

7. Leather seats re-dyed.

8. New luggage rubber deck beading

9. steering wheel refinshed

10. gauge glass removed and cleaned so gauges read clearly at night

This is by no means a concours car...it is not perfect. Just a very nice restored car that was meant to be driven and enjoyed. If you want a 100 point car, be prepared to pay much much more.

There a few small things to do on the car still:
1. new otter switch for the fans (available for about $59-70)
2. rear brakes, but I am including the parts listed above
3. clock does not work...as with most E Types...but there is a firm in MI that rebuilds them with reliable quartz internals.
4. AC...the bearing or re-charging

I am sure there will be some more additional tinkering as is expected with a 43 year old car, but as far as I can recall those are the main things. I have been driving it around in the sunny summer weather and getting waves and compliments. Of course I recommend and inspections and test drive as I cannot warranty a 43 year old used car...and remember 43 year old cars are just that 43 years old. But for being that old this car is in amazingly good condition....especially after seeing what is available for sale out there...IMHO iof course!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
