For sale at Brightwell auction 26th November 2014

Jaguar E-Type S2 4.2 Coupe

Lot number 103

Estimate £32,000 - £34,000

Description Jaguar E-Type S2 4.2 Coupe

Registration XRW 51J

Year 1970

Colour Regency Red

Engine size 4,235 cc

Chassis No. 2R 28785

Engine No. 7R 13752-9

The accompanying Heritage Certificate shows that this very well presented car was manufactured on 22 October 1970 in Regency red with Beige leather and dispatched on 10 December of that year to Peter Lindner in Frankfurt. It entered into the hands of Captain G Petrie of Soest in Germany, where it remained until it was exported to Canada in 1987.

Remaining there for only two years, it was delivered to Liverpool for Mr Lee, and by 1995 had been passed to Norman Simpson who began a thorough restoration two years later. This included a full strip-down and a rotisserie restoration of the bodywork and conversion to RHD. Photos detailing the extent of the work carried out are included in the file. Completed and put back on the road in 2003, the vendor purchased it through Jaguar specialists Lanes of Litchfield in 2009 and has enjoyed it ever since.

Stored in a Carcoon, it has only been used on dry days and special occasions. He took it to the 50th Anniversary at Silverstone and as a qualified aircraft engineer has given it the sort of attention that one would expect of his profession during his five years of ownership. It is MOTd until November 2015.

Detailed on the Heritage Certificate as being the 'second from last of its type', this super FHC looks excellent value and is wanting for nothing more than a new owner to appreciate its grace, space and pace.

Full Description

The accompanying Heritage Certificate shows that this very well-presented Euro-spec S2 Coupe was manufactured on 22nd October 1970 in Regency Red with beige leather and dispatched on 10th December of that year to the Peter Lindner dealership in Frankfurt (of Lindner/Nocker Lightweight E-Type racing fame). It then entered into the hands of Captain G Petrie of Soest, Germany (presumably an officer in the British Army Of the Rhine), where it remained until it was exported to Canada in 1987.

Staying in Canada for only two years, it was then delivered to Liverpool for Mr Lee, and by 1995 had been passed to Norman Simpson who began a thorough restoration two years later. This included a full strip-down and a rotisserie restoration of the bodywork and conversion to RHD. Photos detailing the extent of the work carried out are included in the file. Completed and put back on the road in 2003, it was then acquired by the previous owner from Jaguar specialists Lanes of Lichfield in 2009.

A qualified aircraft engineer, he continued to maintain the car carefully, storing it in a Carcoon and using it only on special occasions, including attending the E-Type 50th Anniversary at Silverstone in July 2011. The vendor acquired the car in 2014 and has also used it only sparingly, covering some 500 fine weather miles in the last three years. He has recently serviced the car and fitted new clutch master and slave cylinders. Said to drive as well as it looks, it has an MOT until November 2017 with no advisories recorded and is due to be driven some 140 miles to the sale.

Detailed on the Heritage Certificate as being the 'second from last of its type' (the very last LHD S2 Coupe being chassis 1R/28786), this super E-Type looks excellent value and is wanting for nothing more than a new owner to appreciate its grace, space and pace.

Sellers description:
This is a very significant matching numbers E-Type being the second from last Series II FHC ever made. XRW 51J was supplied new by Peter Lindner (of Lindner/Nocker Lightweight E-Type racing fame), Frankfurt, Germany to a British army officer. Spending it's early years in Germany, before being shipped to Canada in 1987. After two years the E-Type was shipped to Liverpool and between 1997 and 2003 was subject of a major restoration that was carried out to an exceptionally high standard.

Since the major 6 year rebuild finished in 2003 the car has only covered around 3000 miles and presents beautifully. The bodyshell was totally stripped down to the tub and the shell rebuilt as required with all running gear removed. Photos highlight various new panels being fitted to the body and mechanical work to include the differential being overhauled and the engine stripped down. Many new parts were fitted to the car including new stainless steel exhaust pipes and manifolds, new polished rocker covers, electronic ignition, fuel pump, various re-chroming and new rubbers. On build up the E-Type was overhauled with all new brakes, suspension and steering, being professionally converted to RHD.

Today she still presents superbly with an excellent, straight bodyshell and the paint work is absoloutley first class. On the road this Jaguar won't disappoint with wonderful power delivery; it's quick, pulls superbly and sounds fabulous with a lovely exhaust note. The four speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly, handling is superb this being a great drivers car.'supplied fully inspected, serviced with a 12 months warranty
