This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was initially delivered to Seattle, Washington and was acquired by the seller in 2015, reportedly from the original owner. The car is finished in black over black leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an AM/FM/cassette radio, and a heater. This XKE coupe is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, a service manual, removed windshield trim, spare parts, a car cover, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in black and was repainted around three decades ago. Exterior equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. Paint checking, blemishes, and fading are present throughout the body. A portion of the windshield trim is missing and rust present on the driver’s door, below the battery, and on the passenger-side floor.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by earless knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XZ4 tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and a heater. There are tears and cracks in the upholstery.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, less than 1k of which were added under current ownership. The hazard switch and left turn signal indicator are inoperative.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was overhauled in 1988, while a gear reduction starter and Pertronix electronic ignition were added under current ownership. An oil change was performed and the fuel tank flushed in 2022.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch hydraulic cylinders were replaced under current ownership and work performed at 48k miles is said to have included replacing the clutch along with the transmission bearings and synchros. Rust on the underside is visible.
The Washington title lists “Classic” under the brands section.
