    Sellers comment:
This 1970 XKE Jaguar is a two owner original car. The first owner bought it brand new. The second owner purchased the car and has owned it since 1979. In 1990 this Jaguar was completely restored with professional engine restoration, leather interior, and a 12 coat red lacquer paint job that is absolutley spectacular. The car is in original condition with no major alterations. It has been kept in an air conditioned garage and driven on nice days with the annual mileage placed at about 1200 miles per year. The car is near show quality.

Current bid $14,250 reserve not met, 6 bids, 5 days left in auction. 64k miles. Car now located in Tempe, Arizona.

    Sellers description:
EXCEPTIONAL 1970 XKE COUPE, THIS CAT HAS SPENT MOST OF ITS TIME BETWEEN TEXAS AND ARIZONA AND IT SHOWS. MECHANICALLY THIS JAGUAR STARTS AND OPERATES JUST THE WAY WE LOVE, SMOOTH AND DEPENDABLE, CLEAN CONCISE SHIFT WITH THE VERY DESIRABLE 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE 4.2 LITRE 6 CYLINDER ENGINE PURRS AT SPEEDS WITH THE COMPLIMENT OF THE AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE EXHAUST SYSTEM. SHE SPARKLES AS SHE MOTORS DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH FACTORY CHROME WIRE WHEELS AND KNOCKOFFS, SITTING ON PIRELLI PERFORMANCE RADIAL TIRES. THE INTERIOR IS WAY ABOVE AVERAGE IN THE ORIGINAL BISCUIT COLOR, NO RIPS OR TEARS, THE BLACK DASH IS PRISTINE. THE EXTERIOR OF THIS SLEEK COUPE IS BRILLIANT RED WHICH APPEARS TO BE THE ORIGINAL COLOR. THIS CAR SHOWS EXTREMELY WELL WITH SOME SMALL ABRASIONS NOTED FROM ITS NORMAL USE, THE NOSE IS CLEAN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A MARK ON THE LEFT SIDE INTRODUCED TO US BY A LESS THAN SCRATCH GOLFER AS WE PASSED A LOCAL COUNTRY CLUB ON A SUNDAY MORNING DRIVE. DRIVE IS WHAT THIS COUPE DOES BEST, SHE STARTS EFFORTLESSLY EVERY TIME AND DELIVERS A PLEASURABLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE CONSISTENTLY. THIS IS NOT A SHOW CAR BUT SHE WILL DEFINITELY TURN SOME HEADS. BRIGHT RED PAINT, SHINY CHROME WIRE WHEELS, AND A DISTINCTIVE EXHAUST NOTE MAKES THIS A REAL CROWD PLEASER. FOR THE TENURED COLLECTOR AND ENTHUSIAST, OR THE FIRST TIME COLLECTOR CAR BUYER THIS JAG WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Current bid $10,000 reserve not met, 10 bids, 9 days left in auction. Car now located in Ellicott City, Maryland.

    Sellers description:
1970 Jaguar E-type coupe. A couple of car magazines have named the E-type as one of the most beautiful cars of all time. It must be seen to be truly appreciated. 1970 was the last year of the 4.2-liter inline 6 cylinder engine in the E-types, and so is considered by many to be the most reliable of all E-type engines. This particular car is in the very desirable combination of red with tan interior and is very complete. It needs nothing. Both interior and exterior are in great condition. Upon purchase, I spent the better part of a month of just cleaning both, and then polishing the exterior. The chrome is close to show quality and just needed cleaning. The only cosmetic flaw on the exterior is some glazing on a small part of the hood (one of the pictures attempts to capture this) and a tiny bit of rust on the lower corner of the passenger door (it was too small to be visible on any of the photographs). There are also a few spots on the edge of the hood where the paint needs to be refreshed. I have refurbished the carburetors, replaced the battery, spark plugs and wires, converted the oil filter to a screw-on type, and have added a Petronix electronic ignition system (it fits inside the distributor cap), which does away with the distributor points and condenser, making the car more reliable. I have also replaced the coolant, oil, brake fluid, and differential fluid. The brakes themselves have a lot of life left. I’ve also detailed the engine compartment. Regarding the interior, all of the gauges were removed for cleaning and then reinstalled, and I’ve also added a Pioneer radio with CD player and Ipod connectivity, speakers, and a subwoofer. There is surprisingly little wear on the seats, with no rips or tears. Overall, I’d say the exterior is an 8 out of 10; the interior is probably 9 out of 10. The car runs very well, and after the initial work described above was completed, has needed nothing.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
