Ebay item 8/1/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-no-reserve-XKE-coupe_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcat ...
Current bid $9,000.00, no reserve, 1 bid, 4 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Series 2, 4.2 liter coupe.

The car is equipped with A/C and appears to have all the parts in place but not blowing cold.

The title that I recieved was from 1987 and the mileage read 50,870. I purchased the car in 2000 and the odometer was not working and was replaced and currently reads 1,283 miles.

The car has spent most of the last 20 years sitting in a garage and I would recommend a basic inspection of brakes and suspension.

The engine starts and runs smooth.

All the gauges seem to work except the clock.

Car returns to ebay 9/26/05

Current bid $15,096.00 (Reserve not met), 12 bids, 8 days left in auction. Car now located in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. Buy it now price $22,000.

Sellers description:
I have several classic Jaguars. I try to drive all, but the collection ends up with show cars that I normally do not drive except to shows and those that I drive regularly. Generally, the drivers are air-conditioned.

This particular Jaguar is equipped with air conditioning that blows cold even during the hot Florida summer. If you want a coupe and air is important, you’ve just narrowed your selection to the Series 2 coupe; as earlier e-types didn’t offer air and the later Series 3 versions only came in the ungainly 2 plus 2.

For many the only trade-off is roadster with/without air or coupe with air. In Florida we demand air in both excluding show cars in which air was not offered. Proponents of the coupe cite ease of entrance and exit, storage for golf clubs, and looks as reasons for preferring the coupe over roadster. However, many are drawn to open air for obvious reasons.

This motorcar is drop-dead gorgeous with a custom metallic burgundy finish (much nicer than the standard non-metallic regency red). It is about the same color as the Washington Redskin football helmet and shines about the same. The paint is excellent in depth, gloss, and color as is the chrome.

The engine runs smoothly, the transmission is crisp, and the clutch is strong.

The interior is fairly new and very presentable.

The body is straight with no evidence of rust (car has spent most of its life in the Midwest).

Mileage was reported to be just over 50,000 when the car was restored in the 1990s. Mileage since then is 1,354. That is what reads on the odometer.

If what you are looking for is just a nice looking sports car, but do not have the interest or money necessary to own and maintain an e-type, do yourself a favor and buy one of the many new cars. You will be happier in the long run. However, if you have the money to buy one and don't mind tinkering, you are in for one great ride.

Previous auction ended at $14,900 after 13 bids.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
