This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that was built on May 12, 1970, and distributed via British Motor Holdings of Canada. The car is said to have remained in California with two previous owners before the seller’s acquisition in 2010. A subsequent refurbishment involved stripping the body, placing it on a rotisserie, and refinishing it in gray, while the interior was re-trimmed in red leather and the 4.2-liter inline-six, suspension, differential, and brake system were overhauled. The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, triple SU carburetors, a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, GAZ adjustable shocks, a stainless steel dual exhaust system, and a retro-look push-button radio with Bluetooth. This XKE is offered with a car cover, manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photos, service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Ascot Fawn, the body was mounted to a rotisserie during the 2010s refurbishment and received bodywork before being repainted in its current shade of grey by Creative Images of Lodi, California. The left-rear quarter panel was repaired, the side marker indicators were removed, and the windshield along with the left door glass were replaced. Exterior details include a black soft top, a louvered hood, a left mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual polished exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and wear 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, while a matching spare is stored in the trunk compartment. GAZ adjustable shocks have been installed at each corner, and additional suspension work performed during the refurbishment involved installing an upgraded anti-roll bar and torsion bars as well as replacing the springs. The four-wheel disc brake system was also overhauled and fitted with new calipers.
The reupholstered interior houses a pair of bucket seats with headrests trimmed in Euro Autolux red leather accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Select brightwork was replated or replaced as part of the refurbishment. Dynamat lines the footwells, and additional appointments include three-point seatbelts, a sliding rearview mirror, and a retro-look push-button stereo equipped with Bluetooth and linked to replacement speakers mounted on each side of the center stack.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack above a row of replacement rocker switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was overhauled as part of the refurbishment and work included:
Cylinders bored and honed
New pistons, rings and pins
Cylinder head resurfaced and studs replaced
New valves, springs, seats, guides and seals
Crankshaft turned and bearings replaced
Billet aluminum rear main seal with a two-piece Teflon oil seal
New upper and lower timing chains, dampers, and bearings
New oil pump and drive gear
New engine mounts
Flywheel resurfaced
Rotating parts balanced
XKS Motorsport of San Luis Obispo, California installed triple SU carburetors, Pertronix Flamethrower distributor, and a larger aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The starter, water pump, and wiring harness were also replaced. The heater assembly has been rebuilt, and service in April 2022 involved installing an electric fuel pump, adjusting the timing and carburetors, replacing the ignition switch, and performing an oil change.
Block stamping 7R12671-9 is listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as the engine number.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an overhauled four-speed manual transmission. The differential was also rebuilt, the clutch system was replaced, and a stainless-steel exhaust system was installed. Additional work performed as part of the refurbishment involved powder-coating the frame and various suspension components as well as replacing the fuel tank and lines.
A collection of photos taken during various stages of refurbishment work can be seen in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain serial numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
A reproduction chassis plate has been installed, and the removed plate will accompany the car. Manufacturer’s literature, tools, and a car cover are also included in the sale.
