Car at BAT auciton 3/29/17
bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-jaguar-xke-roadster/
Current Bid: $22,500 Ends In: 5 days

Auction description:
This 1970 Jaguar XKE Roadster shows 86k miles and is a mechanically stock driver that has been with the current owner for 15 years. The original 4.2-liter inline-six is paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox, and the engine, electrical system, interior, and body were gone through in the mid 1980s. Work included a repaint in non-original black and a reupholstered black leather interior. Carbs were rebuilt in the fall of 2016, and the vehicle has mostly been stored in a heated garage. It is being sold on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean Ohio title.

Originally finished in Sable, the car was repainted black in the 1980s to a driver-level quality. Flaws are evident in the paint as detailed in the gallery, while brightwork shows pitting and has a dull finish.

Chrome factory knock-off wheels show their age. The car was stored with its top down, and the seller reports that the convertible top has no rips or tears.

Black leather seats were likely reupholstered during the 1980s refurbishment in a non-stock color. An aftermarket stereo was added, but the interior remains stock otherwise. Electronics are said to work properly. The odometer indicates 86k miles and is believed accurate.

Carbs were rebuilt on the 4.2L twin cam inline-six this past fall, and while few service records are included, the car was maintained at Specialty Sports Cars of Columbus, Ohio during the seller's 15 years of ownership. Per the seller, the car is ready to enjoy, and it reportedly drives, shifts, and stops well.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate confirms the engine as original. According to the certificate, this example was built on 12/17/69, and was factory finished in Sable over a Beige interior with a Fawn-colored soft top.

Some rust is present underneath, with detailed photos showing the suspension and underbody.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
