Sellers comment:
This is a 1970 Jaguar E-Type Open Two-Seater with matching numbers, in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. It has the standard 4.2 liter DOHC 6-cylinder engine and four-speed gearbox, four-wheel disc brakes, independent rear suspension, and the other attributes that made the E-Type one of the most technically advanced sports cars of its day, as well as one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.

This example has very straight bodywork with excellent close lines at all panels, and a premium paint job. It has no known rust problems; all surface rust was phosphatized when the paintwork was carried out, and the driver's side floor well was replaced. The interior is recently replaced, with all materials per original specifications (wool carpets, leather seats, etc.). The exhaust system is new, as is the stainless steel heater piping (E-type enthusiasts will appreciate this upgrade). The engine bay is thoroughly detailed. All five tires are almost new Dunlop SP-40 whitewalls with virtually all their tread remaining. The front suspension is newly overhauled, with new ball joints and bushings. Everything works, even the clock (though it does not keep good time...needs to be regulated). Because it is never driven in bad weather (in fact, it has not been wet since it was painted), the soft top is as new. The car runs and drives very well. Though not ready for concours, it is an outstanding driver and should acquit itself well in club events.

Vehicle Condition
This E-type is almost 35 years old and though it is in remarkable condition, it isn't perfect.

The odometer mileage is believed correct but is not guaranteed.

Originality issues:
* The steering wheel is an aftermarket "Moto-Lita" wheel of slightly smaller diameter than the original.
* The shifter has an aftermarket wood knob with the Jaguar crest.
* The headrests were not reinstalled on the seats when the interior was redone (because I didn't like them). They are included in the auction.
* The exhaust manifold "stove" duct and the original air filter housing were removed and replaced with the air cleaners in the photographs. The originals are in good condition and are included in the auction.
* This car's original color was "Sable", a shade of brown not unlike a fudgesicle. I repainted it black. The interior is the original color, as delivered from the factory.
* The factory tool kit isn't available; only the jack and the wheel knockoff tool remain of the original kit.

Added extra numbers from data plate as per a note from the current owner/seller. He also included the following history on the car:

I cannot guarantee the history of the car, but documentary information I have indicates it was sold 2/06/70 to Mr. Robert Faust of San Diego, CA. I am told (but cannot verify) that the car was in a collection and was not driven for several years after Mr. Faust died in about 1986 and its registration wasn't kept current during that time. The last registered owner in California was
Florika Violette of San Diego (1997 registration). Don't know any other details. The car came to Florida in early 1997 as an "in-kind" payment for a broker's commission on the sale of a yacht. The broker was Kent Chamberlain of Lighthouse Point, FL. He did not register or drive the car but consigned it to a dealer, Pedigree Imports of Fort Lauderdale, from which I bought it 6/27/97.

The VIN is listed as U70-1R11252 because California assigned the prefix to undicate the make (U=Jaguar) and year (70) of the vehicle. When I titled it in Florida I tried to get the Florida
DMV to drop the prefix, but it's still right there on the title...though not on the car.

The car was painted in October 1997 (I hated the brown color and it needed some minor body work). It was not stripped to bare metal except in the areas of the repairs (RH quarter and the nose of the bonnet), but for the most part it was block-sanded down to the original red Jaguar primer.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
