Car to be at Russo & Steele, Monterey auction 8/09
www.russoandsteele.com/collector_car/1969_jaguar_xke_roadster_/41-4102.html

Auction description:
Consignment # 41-4102
1969 Jaguar XKE Roadster
VIN: 1R11219

This E-type was purchased new in Pasadena, California by an executive at Southern California Federal Savings and Loan Association. It was then purchased in the 80’s for inclusion in the Art Astor Classics collection where it remained until last year. Mr. Astor performed a cosmetic restoration and the new owner performed a mechanical overhaul. All work was done by a 40 year XKE veteran in Los Angeles, California. In addition a new proper black top and Dunlop tires were added. Included with the car is a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate showing this car to be a correct complete matching numbers example. The odometer reads 53000 miles which is believed to be correct.

This well sorted fantastic driving XKE reflects a decade of refinement that produced a more adaptable, comfortable and in many ways better second series XKE while retaining the classic E-type look.

Sellers description:
This Jaguar is registered with the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. I have historical and service records going all the way back to 1970. Was a Southern California car that found its way into a large collection ( see catalog photo). I purchased it five years ago and have remedied all issues normally associated with a car in a museum. I believe it to be one of the finest driving Jaguars available and have no hesitation to drive this on long road trips. Any cosmetic blemishes are minor and I've chosen not to repair those as I want this to be a driver quality car. Wouldn't take much to make it a trailer queen. The cool cats system has eliminated any overheating elements, the electronic ignition works extremely well, the work the Concourse Cars in Colorado Springs has done to restore underneath the car to a truly remarkably handling car was done extremely well. Modern vintage replica tires are virtually new as is the convertible top. A vintage.... Radio has been installed but upgraded with modern speakers and Two amplifiers.. Correct and Jaguar correct true wire wheels.

Car was at auction in '08
www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm

Auction description:
The Astor Collection
27 - 29 June 2008
Lot 194
1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster
To be auctioned on Saturday, June 28, 2008
Sold for $41,250
Chassis no. 1R11219

The E-Type pictured here was reportedly purchased new in Pasadena by an executive at the Southern California Federal Savings and Loan Association. It is believed to have had only two owners from new and remains largely original with the primary exception of a repaint in red. Nevertheless, the car is complemented by optional wire wheels and is very presentable in every respect. The beige top is excellent and the beige upholstery has developed a lovely patina and remains very presentable as well. As expected, the engine bay is generally unrestored although with less than 53,000 presumably original miles, this E-Type remains in remarkable condition and is an excellent roadster example by any measure.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
