Description

1968 Jaguar XKE FULLY RESTORED, 59K mi, A/C

Interior: Blue

VIN Number: 1E79212BW

Exterior: Blue

This is a 1968 Jaguar E-Type (XKE) fixed head 2+2 coupe with the 4.2L inline-six, automatic transmission and air conditioning. This car has 59,316 original miles and is truly stunning and gorgeous in every way. The car has undergone a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration by the owner, who is by trade an automotive mechanic and bodyman of 31 years. He is selling it now only out of necessity, due to being laid off while having a daughter in college. The incredible restoration shows the results of hundreds of hours of work, many thousands of dollars and a tremendous amount of personal expertise. When he bought the car it had an absolutely clean and straight body, but mechanically it was tired and in need of a complete overhaul. During the course of a full year, the owner methodically rebuilt or replaced nearly every mechanical and electrical component. The result is an dead-reliable car that starts perfectly, runs flawlessly every time and drives like a fully restored E-Type should, which is to say, better than it did new. Absolutely no expense was spared and the owner has piles of receipts totaling over $7000 in parts alone. As I am representing this car he had me drive it so that I could honestly attest to its condition. The car starts instantly, accelerates smoothly and powerfully, shifts crisply, corners tightly and does not creak, rattle or shake in any way. The engine never hesitates, the idle is velvety smooth and there is never any smoke at all. Cosmetically, the car is outstanding. The engine compartment is fully clean and detailed. The interior is all-new and shows no wear. The body is absolutely pristine with no rot or rust of any kind, nor any body filler. The paint is completely clear, smooth and perfect other than a few tiny stone chips. Every piece of chrome is perfect, with no dents or pitting. The air conditioning blows cold and works perfectly. Even the original Jaguar knockoff wire wheels are excellent, with no corrosion. The car is stored in a heated garage and has never been driven in rain since the restoration. The original owners manual and wiring diagrams are included, as is the original dealer’s window sticker from 1968.

Shown in the pictures is the file of all the receipts for repairs and parts from the restoration and also all the receipts from the previous owner. There’s far too much to list it all here but these are a few of the highlights: new full interior including seats, headliner and carpet; complete cylinder head rebuild with all-new valves, studs and bronze valve guides; new 4-core radiator; full set of Kevlar hoses; new high-torque starter; new Mallory distributor (put inside Lucas casing); new ball joints; new tie rod ends; new steering U-joints; complete set of body seals and rubber (only the back door not yet done); new light lenses; transmission adjusted and tuned up; A/C completely rebuilt; carburetors fully rebuilt and tuned; new sport coil; new brake booster; new headlight moldings; new heater fan motor; and rebuilt water pump. All of the original parts have been kept and are available to the buyer. The few negatives that could be noted about this car are these: the clock doesn’t work; the tach sometimes bounces a bit; the windshield is slightly scraped in one spot from a wiper arm; and there is a slight scrape underneath the front cowl from a curb or parking bumper.

Here is a list of serial numbers: car# 1E79212BW, body# 4E55600, engine# 7E55144-9, carbs# 175 CD2 (Stromburg)

Vehicle Condition: This is a fully restored, completely reliable car that needs nothing. It can be driven and enjoyed without worries.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
