Saw this at an estate auction 5/5/2007. The asking price was $60,000 (!!!). The car is all original, with just 32,571 miles.Original right down to the blue Girling shocks. It never seems to have been driven in the rain. As with many seldom driven cars, will need renewal of all soft parts...seats cracked beyond recover, carpet scandalous, rubber seals gone. The engine would need to be pulled and freshened. A real rarity: you would need to restore everything EXCEPT the bodywork.

This car is pure Series 1.5,which is to say, it isn't pure anything. the rear half is Series 1, with taillights above the bumper, and S1 exhaust. The bonnet is 1.5, with the short eyebrows above the open headlights. The motor is totally Series 2: ribbed valve covers, crossover manifold, twin fan cowl. The windshield is the "short" S1 style, with three wipers and the washer nozzles in the cowl. The dashboard is S2, with rocker switches. It has S2 A/C, which seems to be in remarkably good shape. Seats are S2 style, smooth leather, but no head rests.

To be at auction 9/11
www.bonhams.com/usa/auction/19385/lot/738/

Auction description:
Sale 19385 - Fairfield Concours d'Elegance, Exceptional Collectors' Motorcars and Automobilia, 17 Sep 2011 to 18 Sep 2011
Connecticut, Westport
Lot No: 738•
1968 Jaguar XKE Coupe 2+2
Chassis no. IE-78934BW
Engine no. 7E-55280BW-9
Manufactured in the summer of 1968 during this transitional period, this 'Series 1½' 2+2 Coupé has been in the same ownership since new. having been lovingly cared for and only lightly used it remains in remarkable original condition. This original machine has covered only 32,000 miles in its 43 years. The black leather upholstery has a even patination and the paintwork is well preserved though careful compounding should even out the finish.

This 2+2 is offered with the rugged automatic transmission option. Coupled to the powerful motor it is a powerful and easy to use grand touring sports car.

Totally original well preserved E-Types rarely appear on the market and one owner low mileage examples are even rarer making this a great opportunity.

Estimate: US$25,000 - 35,000
