This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 2+2 coupe that was acquired by the seller in November 2020 as a disassembled project and subsequently underwent a multi-year refurbishment. Work included refinishing the car in blue over blue upholstery, overhauling the 4.2-liter inline-six, and retrofitting a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a 123Ignition distributor, an aluminum radiator, and triple SU carburetors as well as split chrome bumpers, H4 headlights, a heated rear window, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a retro-style radio. This XKE 2+2 coupe is offered by the seller with spare and removed parts, repair manuals, manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records and photos, and an Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I equipment such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example was finished from the factory in Light Blue, and damage to the driver-side quarter panel, the hood, and other areas were repaired and the body repainted following the seller’s 2020 purchase. The seller added relayed H4 headlights, LED turn signals and running lights, as well as a heated rear window. Additional exterior details include a louvered clamshell hood, three windshield wipers, a driver-side mirror, venting rear quarter windows, a side-hinged rear hatch, and polished twin central exhaust outlets.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 205/70 Yokohama Avid Ascend LX tires. The car is equipped with a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, with the rear discs mounted inboard. Modifications were made to the braking system that included a sleeved master cylinder, Zeus vented front rotor conversion, braided stainless-steel brake hoses, and remote rear brake bleeders.

The cabin had been refurbished and is equipped with front bucket seats and rear seating trimmed in blue upholstery along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include hand-crank side windows, three-point seat belts, a locking glove compartment, and a retro-style radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation with LED illumination that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a centrally positioned analog clock and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six has been overhauled during the aforementioned refurbishment, and work included a 0.020″ overbore, polishing the crankshaft, installing ARP connecting rod bolts and tappet guide hold-downs, and resurfacing the cylinder head. A Teflon front crank seat and rear main seal conversion were reportedly carried out, and the car was fitted with triple SU carburetors, an ITG air cleaner, a stainless-steel cylinder head oil feed line, a 123Ignition distributor, Magnecor 8mm spark plug wires, a high-torque starter, and an aluminum Series II XKE-style radiator. An oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.

The car was originally equipped with a Borg Warner automatic transmission that has been replaced with a four-speed manual transmission. A lightened flywheel has reportedly been installed, and the removed automatic transmission is included with the car.

Documentation accompanying the car includes repair manuals, manufacturer’s literature, service and refurbishment records, and a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate detailing colors, serial numbers, and production information.

Chassis number 1E78426BW and the same sequence prepended with a “J68” is listed as the VIN on the title. The Arizona title lists an odometer brand of “exceeds mechanical limits”.
