This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I 2+2 coupe that was initially sold in California and imported to British Columbia in 1969, and it underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment following the owner’s acquisition in 2002. Refurbishment work in 2012 included body repairs, a repaint in Opalescent Silver Blue, an interior re-trim in blue leather, and an overhaul of the 4.2-liter inline-six and the three-speed automatic transmission. Additional details include a replacement rear differential with 3.54:1 gearing as well as 15” Dayton wire wheels, Wilwood front calipers and rotors, Gaz shocks, triple SU carburetors, a Webasto fabric sunroof, a heater, and a Le Chaperon AM push-button radio. This XKE 2+2 is now offered on dealer consignment in Canada with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, and British Columbia registration.
The car left the factory in silver blue and during the aforementioned refurbishment, the car was stripped to bare metal, body repairs were completed, and it was repainted in Opalescent Silver Blue before replacement glass was installed. Exterior details include an overhauled Webasto fabric sunroof and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders as well as covered headlights, dual fender-mounted mirrors, a louvered hood, twin center-mounted exhaust outlets, and taillights mounted above the rear bumpers.
Chrome-finished replacement 15″ Dayton wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-series Universal Sport SP41 tires, while a matching spare is stored under the trunk floor. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel vented disc brakes with Wilwood front rotors and four-piston calipers along with Series III-specification inboard rear calipers and stainless-steel brake lines. The suspension is reported to have been overhauled with polyurethane bushings, adjustable front Gaz shocks, replacement rear shocks and springs, larger sway bars, and a solid-mounted steering rack.
The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that were reupholstered in blue leather. Appointments include a heater, Jaguar-branded rubber floor mats, a center console, front lap belts, and a Davis Le Chaperon AM push-button radio. The heater is said to have been overhauled and fitted with stainless-steel lines.
The replacement wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 14k of which are said to have been covered under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was overhauled during the refurbishment and is fitted with triple SU side-draft carburetors and polished valve covers. The engine was further equipped with 1 7/8″ intake valves, a PerTronix distributor, a high-pressure oil pump, a spin-on oil filter, an electric 10-blade fan, a replacement wiring harness, a high-torque starter, and a replacement fuel tank, pump, and lines. The radiator was re-cored, and the header tank was fitted with an overflow valve, per the selling dealer.
Engine stamping 7E50127-9 corresponds with the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, as well as the number shown on the data plate in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission that was overhauled during refurbishment and fitted with a transmission fluid cooler, while a replacement rear differential with 3.54:1 gearing is said to have been subsequently installed.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the build date, original colors, and drivetrain numbers. Service records, manufacturer’s literature, and tools are also included in the sale.
