Q Writes, as seen on ebay, the starrting price is a staggering £32K car looks in good condition.

Seems we have a nice pic of this car on Jag-lovers as it was being built on the production line at Browns Lane in 1968 - then Yellow! [1E51312]

A better link to the pic itself is hopefully here: tinyurl.com/jujnf . Wish mine had such a picture! Very 'atmospheric'...

Tinyurl link expired but pic is shown on page 378 of Porter's book: Jaguar E-type The Definitive History.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was in the bog with said tome at one point and said to myself "must note that" when I saw the photo and promptly forgot. I'll write Mssr. Porter and see if it's permissable to show the image here. Then it's just a matter of convincing Mrs. Roger to scan it...

As I recall, it's the only number which can be made out, at least as printed in the book.

Very nice pic! It appears that the colour is pale primrose? The car # appears very clearly on the windscreen. Let me know if you'd like a copy of the picture e-mailed to you.

very nice but are you guys sure this is the same car as being very late in S11/2 production should it not have the later cooling system installed as a bulkhead mounted header tank ? which if you look at the owners own engine bay pic it looks like you can just make the bulkhead tank out ? GARY

Car is the cover photo of an article in Wired about Jaguar's 75th anniversary. Note the VIN on the toolbox attached to the car on the assembly line.

Sorry guys! We've got the wrong car, that Pale Primrose Automatic RHD Series 1 2+2 with a black interior in the factory photos is BODY NUMBER: 4E51312, not chassis number 1E51312. It was made most likely in the end of June 1966. Now I only wish more people would also add the body number and gearbox number onto the site. I guess those are not always quoted for auctions then. BTW the factory photo also shows well the *smooth aluminium cam covers* as well as the "1966" separate door locks on 2+2's. Cheers!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
