This 1968 Jaguar XKE coupe is finished in green over tan leather and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car reportedly spent time in Colorado and Nevada before being acquired by the current owner in 2009. Equipment includes exposed headlights, chrome bumpers, a louvered hood, three-point seatbelts, and a Jensen cassette stereo with aftermarket speakers. This Series 1.5 XKE is now offered with a service manual, spare parts catalogs, and a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name.
The Series 1.5 features exposed headlights to comply with US regulatory requirements and retains Series 1 details such as a small front grille opening along with taillights mounted about the rear bumper. This example was reportedly finished in beige from the factory and was refinished in its current shade of green during previous ownership. Exterior features include a louvered hood, a chrome driver-side mirror, and clear front turn signal lenses. The windshield is said to have been replaced in July 2022. Paint blemishes are visible on the hatch and doors and the finish on the rear hatch emblem is blemished.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured with three-lobed knockoffs and wrapped in 185HR Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A spare wheel, jack, and knockoff wrench are stored in the trunk. The rear calipers, vacuum booster, and brake master and slave cylinders were reportedly replaced in December 2021, and remote rear brake bleeders have been added. The seller notes that the steering has a clunk when maneuvering at low speeds and that corrosion around the trailing arm supports was removed.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in tan leather that is complemented by dark green carpets. Additional appointments include a clock, three-point seat belts that were installed during current ownership, and a Jensen cassette stereo with aftermarket speakers. According to the seller, the heater core and interior ventilation blower were replaced during current ownership. The shift boot is torn, and the seller states that the center rocker-switch panel is broken and that there is rust under the carpets.
The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges located on the center stack for voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles, approximately 3,500 of which have been added during current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual carburetors, which are said to have been rebuilt under current ownership. The points and condenser were reportedly replaced with an electronic ignition module sourced from an XJ6, and the seller notes that the alternator and regulator were replaced with a single-wire US unit during previous ownership. The heat shields next to the brake reservoir have been replaced with stainless-steel plates, and the heat shield above the mufflers has been removed. The seller notes that the engine burns oil and smokes after idling.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Service under current ownership is said to include replacing the clutch cylinders. The seller notes that the 2nd gear synchro is weak and will sometimes grind when shifting.
