I have received a Heritage Certificate for this car that shows a production date of February 9, 1967. The chassis number would denote a Series 1.5 car if they started at 1E34250 meaning the car was built late in 1967. The car has open headlamps, the only feature distinguishing it from a Series 1. How could 1E34263 have been built in February of 1967? I have spoken to the original owner and hope to clear up the matter.

The Series 1.5 coupes start with 1E34583 in late July/early August and are 1968 MY cars built to meet new US safety & emission standards that became effective January 1, 1968. Your car is what has become known as a Series 1.25 which indicates an open headlight 1967, the first of which is 1E34113 built in mid January. As with your car, the 1.25's are identical to the Series 1 cars with the exception of the open headlights. The Series 1 and Series 1.5 judging guides available in the Technical & Originality Library section of the JCNA web site provide a wealth of information on when production changes took place by car number.

Bare aluminum appears to be correct for your engine. If you refer back to the Series 1 judging guide you will note that while the exact transition to the unpainted aluminum cylinder head is not known the earliest confirmed example is 7E11938-9 which is 400+ units before your engine 7E12350-9.

Work begins in earnest again on the car. The IRS has been dropped from the car and the tub is about ready to go on a rotisserie. I have been waiting in line for Chuck Hadley of Monocoque Metalworks to take the car. Looks like it will happen this year.
