Our example is a 1966 Series 1 4.2l coupé, in a very nice combination of Gunmetal Gray on a burgundy interior. This configuration is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful possible on this model. The current owner will buy his car in 2018 from a professional in the Paris region. Already at that time a comprehensive and intensive restoration had been carried out. The condition of the car was perfect and therefore convinced this enthusiast. The car has seen little use since. A maintenance bill dating from 2020 and amounting to more than 7,000 euros testifies to the few adjustments that were necessary after a restoration of this caliber, with for example the repair of a fuel leak in the tank, or the adjustment the alignment of the rear trunk.

Today, the car is presented to us in a very good state of presentation. The paint is taut, and the alignments are good. The cabin, all covered in leather, flatters the eye at first glance and you immediately notice the presence of the magnificent small bucket seats normally reserved for the Series 1 3.8l. The carpets, the storm doors as well as the headlining were changed during the restoration of the whole and a hidden radio was added with discreet loudspeakers. From the mechanical point of view, the car does not suffer criticism. The in-line six-cylinder sounds good and the revving is straightforward and linear, without jolts. As for it, the synchronized gearbox is easier than the Moss boxes fitted to the first 3.8l models. The gears engage with firmness but the gearbox control is precise as is the clutch travel which allows full use of all the flexibility and ardor of this engine. The suspension system is impeccable, bringing a perfect balance to the whole on bumpy roads as well as at high speeds, well helped by the four disc brakes so that you don't have to worry too much about the next turn.
This Jaguar Type E becomes a real weapon when the roads open up, the six-cylinder benefits from an extension that would leave many of our modern sedans behind. In the end, it's a real blow from our team, both mechanically and aesthetically. The cost of the restoration having largely exceeded the value of the car on the market, we can only alert enthusiasts and interested parties... This Type E is probably one of the most beautiful examples available today.

The example we are presenting, chassis 1E33817, is a 4.2-litre Fixed Head Coupé. It was delivered new to New York in November 1966. This configuration emphasises the purity of the coupé's lines while providing a warm and sporty atmosphere inside. The car was acquired by its current owner, a collector, in 2018. Prior to this acquisition, the car had undergone a major restoration. Since then, it has been carefully maintained and used, and is now in good overall condition.
