Bonhams auction info:
www.bonhams.com/auctions/21916/lot/339/

Description:
Lot 339
1966 Jaguar XKE Series 1 4.2 Coupe
Chassis no. 1E33423
Engine no. 7E10120-9
US$ 85,000 - 100,000
£51,000 - 59,000

This wonderfully preserved Series 1 E-Type coupe is a highly appealing machine, handsomely finished in the rare black over colored color-combination that suits the coupe perfectly. The original red leather interior is fully intact and displays a wonderful rich patina. Don't let the originality of this car fool you - this is a fully sorted out car. Under the hood shows a very tidy and clean engine that has been the recipient of extensive service work. The silky smooth engine has strong performance and the chassis has the buttery smooth feel that few restored cars ever do. The car was in the ownership of an expert Jaguar technician for many years. A perfectionist about the mechanical details, great effort went in to make sure the car drove as well as it possibly could.

The body has likely seen a respray many years back but has mellowed to the point that it complements the originality of the car perfectly. Close examination shows the original radio and speakers still fitted and no injustices done to its so appealing original interior. A look in the boot shows the complete original tool kit and jack as well as the original Dunlop spare that appears to have never touched the road.

Some cars just come together well. This Jag, with its great originality, wonderful color combination and fully sorted out mechanical condition is a very appealing E-Type indeed.

Footnotes
Please note this car is titled as a 1967.

Current bid US $47,100 reserve not met 10 bids 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.

Sellers description:
1967 JAGUAR E TYPE 4.2 FIXED HEAD COUPE-
-VERY ORIGINAL NEVER RESTORED 55,000 MILE SURVIVOR
All Matching Numbers in the highly desirable original color combination of black with red leather and with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming all. With just 55,000 genuine miles, this car had just 2 previous owners since 1966. Original owners had the car over 40 years. The car was then in storage from the mid - late '70's until purchased by the 2nd owner about 5 years ago . The car then had a full service to return to the road including complete disassembly and totally rebuilt the engine , gearbox, rear end and brakes. It also received all new tires and wheels and a stainless steel exhaust system. All mechanical components were meticulously refurbished but with an eye towards preserving the originality and integrity of the car overall. The interior is totally original and untouched for nearly 50 years with great patina. The car has a great original body with no rust or accident damage and one 40 year old repaint in the original color. It comes complete with original tool roll, factory jack in bag, original from new factory Dunlop RS5 spare tire, owners manual & warranty book in pouch that also confirms the original owners name which matches the Hertiage Certificate. This is really a lovely original turnkey car ready to enjoy and a preservation class candidate. This car is for the buyer or collector who is looking for a great original E Type in very nice unmolested condition. The astute buyer will immediately recognize how truly rare this car is, or any car in this condition. THIS CAR LEFT THE JAGUAR FACTORY IN COVENTRY ENGLAND IN OCTOBER OF 1966 AND IS TITLED HERE IN THE US AS A 1967.

1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE 4.2 LITER SERIES 1 COUPE
--Black with Red leather interior and Red carpeting, 55,000 Original miles, 4-speed manual gearbox, Matching numbers, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, Chrome wire wheels.

This E-type is in preservation condition, it has only been restored when and where needed. It is finished in its original color combination as originally delivered when new on October 3, 1966 to its first registered owner, Mr. Bernard Visnick, Mattapan, MA, USA. This E-type has its original body with no rust or accident damage and has received only one repaint since new and in its original color. The interior is fully intact with a wonderful rich patina because of superb care for from new.

This E-type has enjoyed only three owners from new, the last two both well-known in the vintage automobiles circles, its history is well documented. The first owner used the E-type until the mid-1970's when it was put into storage. It remained in storage until circa 2011 and its 2nd ownership. At this time, all mechanical components were meticulously refurbished but with an eye towards preserving the originality and integrity of the car overall. It received a complete disassembly, a totally rebuilt the engine, gearbox, rear end, suspension and brakes as well as a new stainless steel exhaust system and new wire wheels and tires. Today, this E-type runs extremely well and strong and with the feel that few restored examples will ever enjoy. Having been in the ownership of an expert Jaguar technician for many years, under the bonnet is excellent and detailed well. A perfectionist about the mechanical details, great effort went into it to make sure the car drove as well as it possibly could. Don't let the originality of this car fool you, this is a fully sorted example.
This E-type is complete with original tool roll, factory jack in bag, original radio, original factory Dunlop RS5 spare tire (never used) and its owner's manual & warranty book in pouch that confirms the original owners name which matches the Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

This is a superb E-type that has been cared for from new and which is perfect for any concours preservation class. It is extremely rare having been truly cared for and with originality in mind, something that is not easily duplicated. An automobile can always be restored, but this level of superb originality is a rare find due to the care that must be taken by all of its custodians from new. It is a truly unmolested Jaguar E-type.
