Entered from a deceased estate based in Spain's exclusive Sotogrande district, chassis 1E31740 was among 4,582 left-hand drive E-Type Series I 4.2 Litre Fixed Head Coupes built. Perhaps as a way of lowering its import duty liability, the Jaguar was UK registered on 7th September 1965 and spent circa twelve months here before being shipped to America. Repatriated from Arizona in 2009, the two-seater was acquired by Williams Horsepower the following year. Found to contain `absolutely no rust' and with an odometer reading of just 49,000 miles - a figure subsequently lent credence by the internals of its factory-fitted engine - chassis 1E31740 was treated to an extensive, `bare metal' restoration during 2011-2012. Sympathetically overhauled and upgraded, the 4.2 litre straight-six gained a lightened flywheel, Lumenition electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust, re-cored radiator, new water pump, two-stage Kenlowe fan, fresh gaskets / bearings, flushed water jacket / oilways, skimmed cylinder head (giving a compression ratio of approximately 9.25:1), high performance valve springs, new piston rings, ground / polished inlet and exhaust ports and reconditioned triple SU carburettors. The back axle was refurbished (differential attended to / fresh seals), the suspension re-bushed and new Gaz adjustable shock absorbers installed all-round. The brakes were uprated with Coopercraft vented front discs / callipers, alloy rear piston housings, Automic pipes and Greenstuff pads. Rewired, the E-Type also benefited from a new headlining, leather seat covers and replacement carpets. Repainted in Gunmetal Grey and riding on fresh 6J wire wheels, the Jaguar was acquired by its late keeper from Williams Horsepower for £65,000 during late November 2012. Further enhanced since then by the addition of air-conditioning and a five-speed Getrag gearbox, the two-seater is understood to have covered a mere 3,000 or so post-refurbishment miles. Characterised by the vendor's agent as `a gentleman's fast road car', this Series I 4.2 Litre Fixed Head Coupe is offered for sale with a CD of restoration photos, UK V5C Registration Document and sundry invoices.
