More info on above auction:

Current bid $4,100 reserve not met, 14 bids, 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
We are offering this desirable 1966 Series 1 Jaguar XKE Coupe as a restoration project or valuable source of hard to find parts. The car is 90% complete; the only major items missing are the carburetor/intake assembly and the 4-speed synchromesh transmission. Note: the winning bidder is optionally entitled to purchase a brand new Classic Jaguar 5-speed XKE gearbox at 1/2 price (normal retail: $4700).

The car includes a numbers-matching cylinder head, a non-matching but correct 4.2 engine block, solid engine frames, front/rear suspension, all brake calipers, 4 wire wheels, front/rear bumpers, all doors and windows, dash panels (without instruments), plus a number of smaller detail items. The car will require typical rust repair in the floorboard area, but the rest of the car is unusually free from rust (note boot floor). The bonnet has suffered a few dents and will require a fair bit of sheet metal work to make it perfectly straight, but significant rust is not an issue.

The Series 1 Jaguar XKE is now passing 40 years of age and prices for nicely restored examples are well into 6-digit territory. The number of remaining project cars are few. Don’t miss it!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
