This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe underwent a mechanical refurbishment between 2017 and 2019 by Muncie Imports and Classics of Muncie, Indiana, totaling over $89k and including a rebuild of the engine and overhauls of the brakes, suspension, and steering components. The car has been repainted red over black leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, a repair manual, a tool kit, service records and photos, and a Pennsylvania title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Blue and was repainted red some time ago. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets. The rear window molding is missing and there is rust-through in the rockers and quarter panels.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Mastercraft tires measuring 205/75. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes, suspension, and steering systems were refreshed in 2018 and steel brake lines have been added.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt during the refurbishment and the starter, blower motor, fuel pump, and fuel level sending unit replaced.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate was issued in 2015 and shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates. The certificate indicates that engine number 7E4508-9 was fitted at the time of issuance.
The Pennsylvania title carries an “Antique Vehicle” brand.
