Car to be at auction 9/10
    www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

    Auction description:
Sale 18216 - Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 17 Sep 2010
    Goodwood Revival, Chichester, Sussex
    Lot No: 354
    1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Coupé
    Registration no. DDG 672C
    Chassis no. 1E20506
    Engine no. 7E3462-9
    Estimate: £30,000 - 35,000, € 36,000 - 42,000

This is only one of 895 right-hand drive Series 1 4.2-litre Coupés sold in the UK in 1965 out of some 1,600 manufactured in total between 1964 and 1968. Chassis number '1E20506' was completed on 30th March 1965 and first registered on 1st April '65 by Henleys in London. The first owner kept the E-Type until 1971, while the second owned the car for 35 years until the current (third) owner purchased it in 2006. We are advised that the car was in sound, perfectly driveable, unrestored but mechanically 'tired' condition at that time. The previous owner had covered relatively few miles over the previous 25 years kept the car on the road and had it MoT'd annually.
Knowing the importance of mechanical safety in such a high performance car, the
current owner began a thorough mechanical restoration. Over the past three years in excess of £25,000 has been spent with Classic Motor Cars (one of the UK's leading marque restorers) and other specialists (see bills on file). The works undertaken are too numerous to list here but principally included having the original engine rebuilt by VSE to 'fast road' specification, and this has been run in with 900 miles covered. New brake discs and calipers, suspension, drive train components, bushes, hoses and a large Kenlowe fan have been fitted. The original front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed; the original period radio has been retained but fitted with modern FM internals and new speakers. The leading marque trim specialist supplied new carpet and some interior trim components using original materials sourced from the Browns Lane trim shop before it closed. Though fitted with new safety belts, the seats still retain their original, well-patinated covers. The chromed wire wheels are shod with new Michelin XVS front tyres.
We are advised that the car drives superbly and safely and is immensely quick. The final phase of restoration would be to attend to the paintwork but the current owner prefers to hand the car on as it is. 'DDG 672C' comes with a complete history file of work done since 1971 together with the original handbook, sales brochure, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, genuine E-Type Workshop Manual and genuine Jaguar E-Type Parts Manual. Finished in dark blue with grey interior, the car is offered with current road fund licence, MoT to March 2011 and Swansea V5.

    Lot Notice
The workshop and parts manual are not present.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
