Car was at auction 10/06

Auction description:
Body colour: Blue
Date Manufactured: 1965
Registration Number: CTT 807C
Chassis Number: 1E20334
Engine Number: 7E29679
History:
Looking particularly fetching in a deep shade of Indigo Blue, this car is one of just 7,700 S1 4.2 fixed head models produced between 1964 and 1968. First registered on 17th March 1965, it was bought by Captain The Right Honourable David Robert Clayton on 9th June 1965. He kept the car right up until November 1988 at which point it was bought by the current family owners with just 60,232 miles on the clock ? a figure believed to be genuine and supported by the large amount of history that accompanies the car.

Between 1988 and 2003 the car was stored in a heated garage and was very little used. In August 2003 it was taken to Road and Race for a full mechanical overhaul which comprised an engine rebuild with the cylinder head converted to lead free; a complete suspension rebuild with new springs front and rear and new Koni shock absorbers; rear subframe removal and rebuild; uprated front brakes with vented discs; new large capacity radiator and Kenlow electric fan and the fitment of electronic ignition. It also benefits from new 6-inch wide chrome wire wheels which give it a particularly muscular stance.

In July 2006 the car was further treated to a thorough check of all mechanical parts, including the steering and suspension geometry, by Phoenix Engineering at Eardisley prior to completing a trouble-free 1,500 mile round trip to the classic racing event at Le Mans.

In all, nearly ?16,000 has been spent on maintaining and improving this car since 1988 and it still has only 62,500 miles on the clock. A matching numbers car that comes complete with all its original handbooks and service records, it now only needs a small amount of cosmetic detailing to bring it up to first class condition.

Widely regarded as a better car than the far more expensive roadster (and, to these eyes at least, better looking to boot), the Series 1 FHC is steadily narrowing the price gap between itself and its ragtop cousin. Buy now while you can still afford it!

Guide price 14,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
