Lot #158052

This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and finished in Pale Primrose over black leather. The car is equipped with a black soft top, sealed-beam open headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, a Blaupunkt CD stereo, and a heater. It was acquired by the seller in 2021, and work has since involved an overhaul of the brakes and replacement of the soft top, clutch, mufflers, main and rod bearings, crankshaft seals, tires, and windshield. This XKE Series 1.5 roadster is now offered with service records, spare parts, and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

The Series 1.5 E-Types featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I equipment such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example is finished in Pale Primrose and was repainted under prior ownership. A replacement soft top, windshield, and bumper overriders were installed in 2022. The seller notes chips around the nose, cracks around the corner of the rear driver’s door opening, and flaws around the lower body panels. The removed windshield and bumper overriders accompany the vehicle.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and were mounted with 185R15 Vredestein tires in 2022. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The radius arm bushings, brake calipers, and brake pads were replaced in 2021 while the master cylinder and booster were overhauled.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, a Blaupunkt CD stereo, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under current ownership. The clock is inoperative and the tachometer is inaccurate.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The main and rod bearings were replaced along with the front and rear main seals in December 2021. The carburetors were also repaired and the choke cables replaced at that time. Oil leaks are noted.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. A replacement clutch was installed, the clutch master cylinder was rebuilt, and the flywheel machined in December 2021. Replacement stainless-steel mufflers were also installed that year.

The Pennsylvania title carries a “Classic” brand
