Sellers comment:
1967 JAGUAR XKE
Gorgeous, fully restored and the right year. This Series 1 1/2 4.2 litre Jaguar XKE roadster had a full ground up restoration to show standards completed in the mid 1990's. Exquisitely finished in opalescent blue and fitted with a black leather interior and a black top. While it has been driven and shown since the restoration, it is very beautiful and is a well sorted auto that can be driven with confidence. It has its original matching number engine head & block. This is a show car that has been used, and as such is the perfect car to purchase as a beautiful "driver".
$52,500.00

Auction description:
1967 Jaguar E Type
XK-E Roadster, last year for high-lift cams, triple S.U. carburetors, full-sycro 4 speed, traditional blade style bumpers, restored several years ago. De-bugged and driven as a weekend and vacation car, very usable and dependable, rock-solid hedge against inflation; there has been a dramatic rise in prices on the series 1 & 1½ roadsters, and all indications are that these vehicles will steadily increase in price. This model is finished in the desirable opalescence silver blue with contrasting top and interior in correct materials, chrome wires, very flashy and fun!
VIN: 1E15398
Final Bid: Sold! $48,600

Car has a buy it now price of $79,500 for 20 days. Car now said to be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Sellers description:
1967 Jaguar XKE Roadster

Chassis Number 1E15398
Engine Number 7E13114-9

The car on offer here is just that, a transitional but true Series 1 Roadster. History on this car, Chassis # 1E15398 shows that it was sold new on August 18th, 1967 to Dennis Stolz of Salem, Oregon. It was first delivered in its original Carmine Red with a Black interior. While exact history on this car is not 100% known at this time, we can trace it to its most recent owner since 2004. Who purchased this E-type through St.Louis based dealer, Hyman Ltd. At that time the description of the car was that it was a numbers matching example (still is) and received a thorough restoration during the mid 1990's with about 84,000 miles on the clock at the time of restoration. Evident through inspection, this car was very well completed and by someone who knew Jaguars. Every aspect of this car was tended to all culminating to a thorough total restoration, with nothing overlooked.

The quality of this car is superb throughout, to date it shows just over 17,600 miles, and has a detailed record of maintenance and show history. We believe this car was originally restored as a driver restoration, and was completed to be both a show car and a car to be driven often on events etc... While not finished in its original color it was finished in the lovely correct opalescent silver blue, and still retained its new but very correct black interior; all completed to a very high standard. Upon being acquired by its most recent owner in 2004 this E-Type reported just 14,353 miles on the odometer at that time, which would also be the mileage since restoration. The new owner at that time, a Mr.Giannantonio of NJ, was an avid JCNA member and took the car to many shows, always being shown in the D-2 class and was very competitive receiving a 1st place, and two 2nd place finishes during JCNA sanctioned regional meets (judging sheets available). Other outings include attendance at local shows and often toured during club events, as well as taking place in the 2007 Radnor Hunt Road Rally.

Between 2004-Present this E-Type was maintained with an open check book. Service documentation shows consistent oil changes and work performed by Southampton Imported Cars of NJ. The most note-worthy receipt shows a total engine rebuild with no expense spared at 14,792 miles totaling nearly $10,000. The rebuild included a complete tear down, block blasted and sent out to have a leaky water jacket repaired properly with high heat welding. Upon return the block was painted and re-assembled with new main bearings, rod bearings, rings, cam bearings etc... Upon installation new hoses, engine mounts, and anything else needed at that time was tended to. To date we show that the car has covered just over 3,000 miles since the rebuild. It was broken in properly and closely maintained since with no issues to be reported. More recently, June 1st 2012, an annual service was completed with a fluids and filter change. At this time the left front brake caliber was also rebuilt and new line installed to bring this car 100% up to date.

Cosmetically this car shows as a 17,600 post restoration example that has been driven and enjoyed. Along with this comes some blemishes here and there but nothing short of patina, character, which do not detract from the overall presentation. A walk around the car will find an occasional chip or scratch that has been touched up: on the nose, and around the boot lid gaps. The driver's side louver on the bonnet shows some minor checking from the exhaust heat, and the driver's side door has a few very slight hair line cracks. All of which cannot be seen from 5 feet away and are to be somewhat expected of a car that has been enjoyed. Otherwise the car shows to be very straight with good but not perfect gaps, very clean rockers, and thin everywhere with no evidence of filler ever being used. The paint shows very well with a deep luster and is stunning in its presentation. All bright work is as good as new with no blemishes noted, as are the chrome wire wheels. Some of the rubber components (trim pieces, seals, etc...) show some cracking, while others are still in excellent condition (some new rubber pieces included in the sale). The glass does have a few small blemishes, but is not in need of replacement. The top fits as good as we have seen on an E-Type and is nearly new, but does have one small tear on the driver side, on top. The boot cover is flawless.

Upon entering the interior, clean door jams and sills give way to a very correct and high quality interior. With superb fit and finish throughout we don't have any complaints. A thorough look at the accessories in this car will show that they are all in working order with the exception of the Hazard Warning lights. Otherwise, every knob, pull, toggle or switch works as it should with no hesitation. The original Blaupunkt Radio is still present and working. Under the carpets shows solid floors in body color, indicating this car was totally apart when sprayed, and is testament to the thorough restoration that took place. The dash is straight and nice with no issues, and all interior (and exterior) trim pieces are present and in excellent condition.

We have had the pleasure of enjoying this E-Type for the past 150 miles and have done so with spirit and vigor with no surprises. If we had one complaint it would be that the clutch is a little higher than we like and down shifts into 2nd will grind on occasion, minor but present. Otherwise there are no mechanical issues known. Turning the key starts the engine without hesitation, once warm it shows about 30 pounds of oil pressure at idle and 60 pounds under throttle. Temperature is consistently in the safe zone and the amps always read in the middle and on the + side when necessary. Power through the rev range is impressive, and road holding is even better with the benefit of modern performance tires, which really ad to the driving experience. The brakes are flawless and the overall experience boasts reliability and performance in one package.

Ultimately this is the best way to enjoy an E-Type: a car that has received a no expense spared restoration, was shown then used as an exceptional driver on rallies and events, all while still participating in the driver class when shown. Club member owned and cared for, and always stored properly, this E-Type represents the ultimate driver. No sorting required, this is a turnkey example that will provide not only an excellent investment but a superb weekend driver that can be driven hard or shown with ease.

Included in the sale are the Jack, hammer, spare, JDHT Certificate, all service documentation, reproduction manual, electrical diagram, various spares, and a boot cover. This is an opportunity not to be missed, additional information and photos available upon request.
