This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I open two-seater that was purchased in 1976 by the seller’s father, who initiated a refurbishment in 1978. The process was only partially completed at the time of his passing in 2007, and the car has remained in storage since. It is equipped with its numbers-matching 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and original four-speed manual transmission. This non-running XKE project is now offered with additional body panels, spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Michigan title.

Originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue, the car was partially repainted in red during the refurbishment, though some body panels remain unpainted. The seller reports that rust was treated by acid-soaking the chassis and body panels for three days, and he believes that the floor pans and a fender were replaced.

Knock-off wire wheels are shod in older whitewall tires. Pitting on the chrome can be seenviewed in the gallery, and no top is currently fitted, although the assembly, frame, and canvas are included.

The stripped cabin retains its shifter, wood-rimmed steering wheel, and disassembled dashboard, which has reportedly been rewired. A pair of black leather seats is included in the sale, and the five-digit odometer shows 74k miles.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was last started in 2006 and reportedly turns over by hand. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission. Corrosion on the engine compartment frame is said to be the result of a brake fluid leak.

Engine stamping 7E 9840-9 is shown above and matches that listed on the Jaguar Heritage certificate, as well as the body tag. The corresponding cylinder head stamping can be viewed in the gallery along with the gearbox stamping.

The seats, fenders, and hood are shown above along with other parts, including two mufflers and a spare wire wheel.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a manufacture date of August 8, 1966, as well as US delivery and the original colors.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
