This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that is finished in gray metallic over black leather and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Features include a black soft top, glass headlight covers, 15″ wire wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes. The seller acquired the car in 2000, and subsequent work has consisted of replacing the wiring harness, exhaust headers, and front brakes. This XKE is offered with spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and transferrable New York registration in the seller’s name.

The car was delivered from the factory in black and was repainted in gray metallic under previous ownership. Details include a replacement black convertible soft top and boot cover, chrome bumpers and a driver-side mirror, glass headlight covers, hood vents, and a center dual exhaust outlet. The seller states the floor pans and rocker panels have been replaced due to rust.

Chrome knock-off 15″ wire wheels are mounted with 205/70 Pirelli P4000 tires. The car rides on four-wheel independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear. The seller states that the front brakes have been upgraded. The front and rear suspension bushings were reportedly replaced along with the ball joints and tie rod ends.

The seating surfaces are trimmed in black leather joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and center console. Amenities include a Blaupunkt AM/SW/FM radio, lap belts, and a sliding rearview mirror. The radio does not work and a spare will accompany the car. Additional items included in the sale consist of a car cover, trunk panels, seat covers, and door panels.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and a clock. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 13k of which have been added by the seller.

The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six was rebuilt by North Coast Exotics in Cleveland, Ohio in 2002 and is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors. The seller states the wiring harness has been replaced, and an aftermarket exhaust header has been installed along with electronic ignition. A spin-off oil filter conversion has been completed.

Engine stamping 7E9127-9 is shown above and matches the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of May 17, 1966.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
