This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on March 4, 1966, and distributed in Germany through Peter Linder. The car is said to have come stateside in the late 1970s and was acquired by the current owner in 1987. Subsequent work involved refinishing the body in maroon and refreshing the interior in beige leather. The car is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a beige soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, covered headlights, split chrome-finished bumpers, and a Becker Europa AM/FM push-button radio. This XKE Roadster is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner in California with a top boot, a jack, a tool kit, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a Pennsylvania title in the current owner’s name.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Maroon, the car is said to have been refinished in 2017 by Rick Chris Restoration of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. A replacement beige soft top and a matching boot have been fitted, and further exterior details include recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome-finished bumpers, a louvered forward-hinged hood, a left mirror, and taillights mounted above the rear bumpers.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and wear 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, while a full-size spare is stored in the trunk compartment. The car is equipped with fully independent suspension as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The interior is said to have been reupholstered in 2010 and features low-back buckets seats trimmed in beige leather with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are provided for both occupants, and additional appointments include a sliding rearview mirror, Jaguar-branded rubber floor mats, and a Becker Europa AM/FM push-button radio linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 260-km/h speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack above a row of toggle switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 58k kilometers (~36k miles), and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors as well as polished valve covers. The engine was reportedly rebuilt by Gran Turismo Jaguar in Cleveland, Ohio Jaguar in 1985. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
The Pennsylvania title carries an “Antique” brand as well as a “Not the Actual Mileage” odometer status.
