This E-Type is a great way to get into the RIGHT car at the right price. If your looking for a show condition car.... stop reading now (and expect to spend triple the money...). If your looking for a really great driving E-type that is mechanically fantastic, has an excellent interior, is not rusty and looks good this is your car!

Mechanically this is one of the strongest E-Types I have ever driven. I purchased this car in Jacksonville Florida and drove it home to Atlanta. I have since driven it over 1,500 miles. It is fast, tight and handles great; even on the skinny whitewall tires!

This car does not run hot. The radiator has been replaced in the past. The header tank is excellent and the fan works properly. The prior owner lived in Florida and ensured that the cooling system was in top condition. Driving in stop and go traffice on a sunny 85 degree day the temp will show around 90C and the car has never overheated.

The previous owner had this car for 15 years. During this time he put less than 10,000 miles on the car. Immediatly prior to his purchase, the car received an extensive mechanical restoration including a completely rebuilt engine. The engine currently runs great. It starts immediatly with the choke and settles to a smooth idle. Cold oil pressure is 50lb dropping to 40lb at 2700rpm when the temp is around 85 degrees C. The car does not smoke, even under hard acceleration from low rpm or at cold start. This car pulls very hard, lots of power. It does have a 9:1 compression engine and thus likes high octane fuel. It has 4 outlet exhaust tips that sound great.

The prior owner had the following work done to the car within the past 2500 miles and immediatly prior to my purchase: New clutch, complete new brake system including re-sleeved stainless calipers, new master cylinder and Servo, new brake lines, rotors and pads. The brakes in this car are PERFECT. They pull hard and straight. New clutch master and slave cyliders. All 3 SU carbs were fully rebuilt. All new cooling system and fuel system hoses. All filters replaced. Tons of little items were addressed to make this car drive great. I have receipts for all parts. Any buyer is more than welcome to speak with the mechanic who performed the work.

Within the past 2 years the entire front suspension was rebuilt. This included: new torsion bars, new shocks, new ball joints, all new polyurethane suspension bushings including A-arms and anti-roll bar. New tie-rod ends. The car steers great and the handling is much better than expected with minimal body roll, precise turn-in and predictable throttle response. This E-type is very well sorted and fun to drive! My only complaint relative to the handling on this car is tire related. This car is wearing 185/70 series whitewall bias-ply tires. These are correct for the car, but I hate the way they look and the car would handle MUCH better with some lower profile, wider tires. 205/60 would do the trick. A set of 6" wide Dayton chrome wires with 205/55 would be even better. The original chrome wire wheels are in excellent condition.

The transmission shifts great, all syncros are excellent including those on first gear. This car was originally delivered in Germany and brought to the US in the late 1960's. It is thus equiped with the 3.07:1 rear axle ratio. This is the ratio used to achieve the famous 150mph top speed when the E-type was launched in 1961. With this ratio the car cruises on the highway at 2600rpm for 70mph!

The electrical system in this car is just about perfect. EVERYTHING works with the exception of the horn. The cigar lighter works, little choke light, reverse lights, map light, trunk light.... all the tiny little electrical things that seem to NEVER work on a Jaguar DO work perfectly on this car! The guages all work correctly and accurately.

The interior of this car is extremely nice. The leather seats and center console lid are excellent original. I would never replace them. The leather on the seats is supple, has no tears or sueding and has just the right patina. The door panels, rear cockpits panels, carpet and other trim pieces have all been replaced with the correct materials. The carpet is as new Wilton wool. All of the little details like the center radio console and ashtray are correct and perfect. The original radio works great. The steering wheel is in great shape and the telescoping column works perfectly. All of the chrome on the interior trim, door trim and controls is as new. The convertible top is in excellent condition and has a zip out rear window. The top is a high quality cloth, NOT cheap plastic. The top mechanism works great and the top fits extremely well. Of coarse the car leaks some if driven in the rain.... all E-types do!The car comes with an excellent original boot cover.

All the rubber seals and trim on the car have been replaced during a prior restoration and are in excellent condition. The chrome exterior trim is all near perfect. The trunk trim is as new.

The engine bay on this car is really nice. The frame rails and bulkhead have nice condition paint in the original color. The aluminum is all shiny. The wiring is neat and tidy. Everything is extremely clean. All of the little details are correct. I love showing people the engine bay on this car, its very impressive!

The body on this car is straight and solid. The floors, footwells and rocker panels have been replaced at some point in the past. I believe this work was done in the late 1980's. The panels used appear to be Martin Robey or similar quality. They have the correct drainage in the rockers and the floors show the correct strength ribs and footwells. All of the work was well done. The inner sill panels are solid and straight. The battery box was also replaced. The trunk floor is excellent, no rust. The front frame rails are also excellent. The bonnet is solid with no rust in the lower valence or in the front fender joints. The car was repainted the original Opalescent Silver Blue when this repair work was done. The body on this car is solid and strong.

This E-type comes with amazing documentation! I have a history file with receipts on the car going way back! I also have the original shop manual, parts manual, owners manual, warranty card, dealer warranty maintenance records, complete and all original tool roll (whats that worth on Ebay by itself!) and original jack.

This is a fantastic "Driver" level car. It looks great, drives perfectly and has no issues to prevent you from using it every day. I would not hesitate to drive this car to California tomorrow!

The paint on this car is something of a weak point. Its a classic case of "looks great from 10 feet". I get compliments on the car everywhere it is driven, but if you look very closely you can see that the paint is not 100% perfect.. As you can see in the pictures, it is very shiny and clean. It does not have giant scratches or dents or any plainly obvious flaws. There are no glaring issues with the paint. Its just been 15+ years and it could use a really good paint job if the car is to be considered of the absolute top quality.. I am nit-picking to a degree here! I judge this car against other E-types seen at shows that are in near perfect to 100 point condition and I am pointing out the areas this car will need addressed to make it a true top level E-type.

The bonnet fit on the car is not perfect. It is very good, but when the car does get painted the bonnet fit should be adjusted and the fit corrected. The fit on the passenger side needs the most adjustment. Again, the car does look great and the I am judging it in a harsh light to ensure that any potential buyer is fully aware of exactly what this car needs down to the smallest detail. Most of the fit issue on the passenger side can be adjusted out at the latch pin as there is ample adjustment available.

My biggest complaint on the car is the door fit. When the body was restored on this car, both doors were re-skinned. It appears whomever did the work only replaced the lower section of the door skins. In a nutshell, they did a terrible job. Skinning E-Type doors is very tricky. As the photos show, the actual door gaps are excellent around the doors. However they protrude slightly from the body at the rear vertical shut line. The issue with the door fit is not related to the body so much as the doors themselves and this is obvious upon close inspection of the doors. There is far too much filler in the doors. These could be fixed by a good body man, but I have located perfect condition original used doors that can be purchased very reasonably and this is what I would do when I went to have the car painted. Again I want to point out that the door fit issue is not terrible. The drivers side door rear edge protrudes from the body less than .25 inch. The passenger side even less. Most people never notice this. The doors close and latch perfectly.

The bottom line is that to be a really perfect E-type this car could use a good paint job. Not a Maaco quickie, but a quality job. I have gotten estimates from reputable Atlanta area shops with E-type experience for $7,000 to $8,500. Throw in the cost of perfect used doors and other "extras" that always pop up... this car needs about $10,000 worth of restoration to be a true top quality E-type. Then again you can drive this car and enjoy it for years to come just as it is. The car needs nothing to be enjoyed. I purchased this car originally expecting to hold onto it. I planned to drive it for a year or two and then do the paintjob myself during a winter project. $32,900.
