Auction description:
Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction
17 - 18 August 2007
Lot 531
1967 Jaguar Series I E-Type Roadster
Sold for $121,000
Chassis no. 1E12116

The 1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster presented here in red with a black top and black interior is an outstanding matching numbers example of what many consider to be the most refined automobile of the entire XKE production run. The Jaguar specialists at Classic Showcase performed a comprehensive restoration on the E-Type with the aim of making it an outstanding driver in show quality cosmetic condition.

The body was stripped to bare metal, fitted, finished, and repainted. The engine and all other mechanical components were serviced, rebuilt, or replaced as needed, including the fuel delivery, exhaust, brake, and electrical systems. All the trim and brightwork has been replaced or re-plated. The interior was fitted with new carpets, panels, seats and a new dash with new instruments. A new battery and convertible top have also been installed. The entire restoration process has been documented with photographs, which will be included in the sale of the Jaguar.

Possessing a top quality restoration and being a Series I roadster with covered headlights and the larger 4.2-liter engine, this is a very desirable E-Type that offers its next owner elegance, grace and open air motoring at its best.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
