1966 JAGUAR E-TYPE 4.2 LITER ROADSTER
Black with Black leather interior, Black carpets and Black Haartz Stayfast convertible top, 977 miles since complete photo documented restoration (completed September 2001) by a well known restoration shop specializing in E-Type restorations, desirable 4.2 liter engine with 4-speed synchro gearbox. This was an extremely comprehensive and proper restoration of a matching number example, it has included the following during restoration. Engine, transmission and rear axle have been completely rebuilt using new bearings, pistons, rings, oil pump, chains, guides, valves, gaskets and seals to original specifications. Brake and clutch hydraulic systems have received a complete overhaul, rebuild brake calipers, stainless steel brake lines, new hydraulic hoses, reconditioned brake servo, operating cylinders bored and re-sleeved as needed as well as reconditioned parking brake calipers. The complete suspension has been rebuilt using all new parts throughout. All hardware and suspension components have been triple cadmium plate, all hardware has been replace with oem type. The following has been rebuilt, restored or replaced with new: Alternator, starter, wiper motor, fan motors, switches and various other components. The fuel system has been rebuilt with a refurbished fuel tank, new lines, fuel pump, rebuilt carburetors-linkages as necessary. Exhaust system is new oem style with porcelain exhaust manifolds. The E-type has been updated with a switch operated auxiliary cooling fan in front of the radiator in addition a complete cooling system restored with new hoses, thermostat restored radiator, rebuilt water pump, stainless steel crossover pipes and new reproduction header tank. The steering assembly has been rebuilt to include rack, linkages, column universal joints and new steering wheel. The wiring has been replaced with a new wiring harness throughout. All instrumentation has been rebuilt. All heating and ventilation systems have been refurbished as needed. All subassemblies have been finished in Black one stage urethane, Hammertone Grey or appropriate Grey/Green finish. All bright work has been re-chromed as needed. It has received a new windscreen. The lights have been equipped with new lenses and Halogen bulbs and finally this E-Type has received new Dayton center lace wire wheels (including spare) with stainless steel spokes to original sizing and specifications. This E-Type 4.2 liter Roadster comes complete with receipts for restoration, photo documentation of restoration, owner’s manual, restored factory jack, new knockoff hammer and original style tool roll. A better example of this desirable 4.2 liter with synchro gearbox will be a hard find for this kind of money. It certainly cannot be duplicated for this kind of money. This E-Type received a first place at the 2003 Hampton’s Concour D’Elegance with a score of 99.2 points. It is ready for Spring touring or concour.

Seller's description:

This E-type was recently extensively and professionally restored by a company with a great reputation and decades of Jaguar experience. Their craftsmenship shows the car from every angle. The shape of the convertible is of course unsurpassed, and due to the beautiful deep shining black color it is getting even more the extra attention it deserves. And it deserves this attention, because it is not only the super tight body itself, but especially the gaps between the bonnet, doors etc. are sublime! The exquisite paintwork also contrasts beautifully with the gleaming chrome, which immediately marks the headlight rings with plexiglass cover. On this Series 1 they are still present, on the later versions, banished by the US regulations, no more.

The interior is also of the same high level. Beautiful black leather and almost no traces of use. There are maybe some less (but original) racy-looking seats fitted, comparing to the bucket seats from the first Series 1, but they are also so much better and provide more space. All chrome is as new, all instruments are working as they should ,and the beautiful softtop is, as well as the hood cover, made of luxurious mohair. Technically, everything is as new and in perfect working order. Please take also a look at the photos from the bottom and suspension of the car; it says more than words can do.

We think a more beautiful E-type is difficult to find. Basically due to the fact that the car was perfectly restored and then very carefully cherished and maintained. The Jaguar was in the recent years part of a nice collection of Jaguars, but after long deliberation it was decided that a following owner should take care of this beautiful (matching numbers!) piece of history. Are you the lucky one to do this?

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
