Auction description:
MONTEREY 2017 CONSIGNMENTS
1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster - Astor Devotion Collection
Consignment # 1060
Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale August 17th - 19th, 2017 at Russo and Steele's 17th Annual Monterey, California Auction.

Los Angeles Broadcasting Pioneer Art Astor was a man known for many things. A dedicated businessman, loving father and grandfather and first rate soldier, Art was also known for his incredible devotion to the automobile.

Russo and Steele is proud to present in Monterey, California the last remaining automobiles in Art Astor's legendary collection. The Devotion Collection features the cars truly closest to Art's heart. These fourteen remaining offerings are vehicles that Art felt so passionately about that he kept them the closest to him, through the end of his life and include prime examples of Pre and Post War American Classics, American Luxury Cars and European Sports Cars.

This Series III is finished in British Racing Green and is fitted with striking chrome wire wheels. The body is straight and solid and the interior sparkles. The black leather seating is in good order and the engine is clean and tidy. Recently serviced this stunning Jaguar XKE is ready for the road or presentation at the next All British Field Meet.

Car returns to ebay 1/31/18
www.ebay.com/itm/1974-Jaguar-E-Type-Series-III-Convertible/372209209298
Car has a buy it now price of $79,900 for 6 days, seller stlouiscarmuseum, 37k miles, car now said to be in St. Louis, Missouri.
Car sold at above auction for $57,750.

Sellers description:
California kept, low mileage E-Type convertible with only 37,000 original miles! Features original, unmodified V12 engine, 4-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, chrome wire spoke wheels, and more! A superb car on the road, and an exciting Jaguar investment for the future!

We are delighted to offer this 1974 Jaguar XKE Series III convertible finished in British Green over beautifully kept Black Leather interior and Black soft top! Options include number matching 5.3L V12 engine producing a powerful 272 horsepower, 4-speed synchromesh manual transmission, air conditioning, chrome 15" wire spoke wheels with Michelin Radial X redline tires, AM/FM radio, twin tip chrome exhaust, leather wrapped steering wheel, telescoping steering column, remote outside mirror, and more! Standard options included a responsive 4-wheel independent suspension with matching disc brakes at all four corners, power steering, front & rear bumper guards, and full dash instrumentation with electric dash!

This wonderful example is showing only 37,208 miles which are believed to be original from new, although the St. Louis Car Museum was not provided enough evidence to support a true mileage claim. Helping support the mileage is the fact this car possesses all original, factory applied paint with exception to the center section of the hood, along with an all original interior and top. A paint meter shows 2.5-4.5mils on all panels, where the hood center was repainted reading 7-10.5mils. Ownership history supports a longtime southern California history, even gracing the esteemed Astor Classics Museum of Anaheim, CA for the past 14 years. This museum was built by Art Astor of the Astor Broadcast Group covering some 100k square feet, all filled with past automobilia, petroliana, industry firsts, and of course his personal car collection. He had purchased this Jaguar from Donald Koll of The Koll Company, a mogul as a real estate developer in the high rise, retail space, and resort building business. History beyond Mr. Koll isn't available, but the car retains the original blue plate California tag which is included with the sale. Also included will be an original owner's manual, 3 sets of keys, and all original tire changing equipment.

Upon arrival to our Museum, we performed a full inspection and replaced the following items: spark plugs & wires, all drive belts (a/c compressor, alternator, power steering, water pump), clutch slave cylinder, brake hoses, fluid level sensors, fuel sender, front sway bar bushings, new hood & door seals, air intake trumpet bellows & clamps, heater intake screen & foam seals, new air filters, new engine oil & filter, among a few smaller items. Overall, the car has been unbelievably well kept and remains very original overall! It starts, runs, and drives with great bravado with a pure Jaguar sound from the exhaust! The brakes and throttle are equally responsive for spirited drives, or relaxing cruises. Note: This vehicle is titled as a 1973 model year example likely due to original registration. Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule an opportunity to see this vehicle in person.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
