This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe left the factory finished in Opalescent Dark Green over beige leather powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors. Chassis 1E31122 later underwent an engine rebuild, a repaint, and an interior re-trim as part of a multi-year refurbishment completed from 2012 to 2020 that was commissioned by the original owner, with whom it remained until 2025. The car rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels coupled with power-assisted disc brakes and Koni shocks at each corner, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. Inside, a wood-rimmed steering wheel is accompanied by Smiths instrumentation as well as a Blaupunkt radio. Recently acquired by the selling dealer, this XKE Series I coupe is now offered in Southampton, New York, with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, refurbishment records, and a clean Arizona title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was specified from the factory in Opalescent Dark Green. A record in the gallery from Prestige Body Works of Prescott, Arizona, notes that the car underwent bodywork and rust repair prior to being repainted circa February 2015. The selling dealer tells us that they had the underside of the hood refinished in Opalescent Dark Green (Glasurit # JAG-7416A) to match the prior paintwork.
The coupe wears bright trim as well as wraparound chrome bumpers, and further details include a louvered clamshell hood and a side-hinged rear hatch along with a cowl-mounted mirror and triple windshield wipers.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185/65 Michelin tires. The brake master cylinder and front and rear calipers were replaced and Koni shocks were installed as part of the 2012 refurbishment.
Re-trimmed by Scottsdale Auto Upholstery in 2018, the cabin features bucket seats upholstered in beige leather along with color-coordinated door panels and rear cargo area coverings. Further interior appointments include a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio and a Smiths heater along with toggle-style switchgear and a wood shift knob.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles, approximately 20 of which were added under current ownership. A February 2012 record in the gallery notes that the speedometer was inoperative, and true mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was specified with triple SU carburetors and factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt and reinstalled by Brighton Motorsports of Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2012.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was resealed and a stainless-steel exhaust system was installed circa 2012.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
