Current bid $25,000.00 (Reserve not met), 2 bids, 6 days left in auction. Car is now located in Marina Del Rey, California. Complete VIN J671E15099.

Sellers description:
Chequered Flag International is pleased to offer this Superbly original '67 E Type Roadster in Black with original Black leather. Sold by the widow of the first owner after having sat in the garage for 8 years. Checked out and serviced by the new owner at a cost of $10,600, with receipts (tune up, new brakes & fluids, clutch master & slave cylinders, remove & clean gas tank, new exhaust, etc) at a mileage of 42830. Mechanically this car is in perfect order with excellent oil pressure, no smoke and none of that usual top end clatter. Drives absolutely straight, no pull or wobble, even at 90 mph. All numbers match, engine & head #7E12754-9. Perfect trans, syncros and clutch. Brakes and suspension are in top shape (handbrake could use a little adjustment) There can't be any better driving E Types. Body is perfect, no rust anywhere, paint is original with a couple of small spray can touch ups, interior is original & I'm pretty sure top is original, has boot and tonneau. As new tools, jack & spare. All chrome wheels are perfect with nearly new matched michelins. Black California plates front & back. This is a very early series one and a half, differing from a series one by the open headlights only, later series ones lost the toggle switches, triple carbs, etc. A covered headlamp conversion would make this a full series one but the early one & a halfs are quite rare. This is a very collectable & very driveable E Type.

Magnificent Triple Black “all original un-restored” XKE

1967 Jaguar XKE 4.2L E-Type Series I

Gearbox number EJ13856

Black hood (soft top)

Date built; 15 March 1967

First owner;

California Freezing & Storage, Watsonville, California.

Purchased 25th September 1967

Since 1966 I have been collecting original paint, low mileage un-restored Jaguars. No matter how well you restore an automobile it rarely drives, or feels quite as nice as an original low mileage car.

This Jaguar is a two-owner California black plated 50,752 mile, original paint (although with many small touch up areas), original drive train, original Connolly leather seats, original soft top (so-so) and all interior fittings. Mechanically I have spent over $12,000 (all receipts available for inspection) modernizing and rebuilding the mechanicals including; entire brake & hydraulic systems, cooling system, change all fluids, major tune up, rebuilding all three SU carbs, timing chain, belts, hoses, upgraded electronic ignition kit, spin on oil filter and even had custom fabricated lead lined carpeted floor mats created to eliminate that nagging heat problem caused by the closeness of the exhaust to the surface of the cockpit floors. Because the paint is over 40 years old there are minor chips, surface scratches, ripples and a bit of factory primer showing through, but no cracking or crazing. Even the original lead seams by the rear quarters are visible and clearly indicate that no paint or body work was ever done there. From 5’ away the paint looks like a strong 9 on a 10 scale, and only upon closer inspection does it fall back a little bit. All the chrome parts are in excellent un-restored condition without any pitting, although you always seem to get that light hazing on old chrome.

The leather is not as soft as when new, although I have been feeding it hide food and it does seem to be getting somewhat better, but will never fully recover I am afraid. Soft top is original and there are two small rips that are repairable, but since I have never driven the car with the top up this was never very high on my priority list. The general condition of the dash (note small crack by tonneau snap) and wooden steering wheel are more fitting of a 15-20,000 mile automobile. The period correct Blaupunkt AMFM was sent out and rebuilt for proper operation.

Finding a “real” triple black original paint XKE convertible was nearly an impossible task, and to date I have not seen another authentic example. There are hundreds of restored XKE’s, but only a handful of unmolested factory original cars left.

In conclusion, this is the kind of motorcar you can drive across the country, and not be sweating bullets all the time wondering if you were going to make it to your destination. The reserve is set reasonably and is market correct. Should you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to call Richard at 630-887-1995. Vehicle is located in Chicago and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Sellers description:
1967 Jaguar 4.2 roadster triple black with both tops - 52,000 miles

This is a legitimately triple black 1967 Jaguar XKE - I have never seen another one - I am the third owner - it is for the most part an original car - I fixed just what little needed fixing and left it otherwise intact - I am pretty critical, and paint on a scale of 1-10 is probably a 7.5 - maybe 8 - polishes out really well - no dings and pretty straight metal and door seams - starts immediately and rolls down the road straight - original radio sounds great.

The guy before me put leaded floor mats in to reduce heat under your feet and I put in proper seat belts

Numbers match and the cage in the nose is correct

I have sheepskins on the seats (see photo)

Heritage Certificate

Both radiators (big one on there now so you can drive year round)

New HAARTZ soft top properly fitted

New door and top seals

New glove box liner

New lower ball joints and alignment

New breaks from the last owner

Tools and owners manuel

New battery

Refinished Hardtop inside and out - looks great

It seems a car can have 'outstanding originality' even if perfectly good original Vaumol seat covers are thrown away and replaced with new and completely different quality modern leather....

Original bonnet had open headlights too. Its original but not 100%.

Front turn signal lenses are incorrect amber color so must be non original. I see the top is a replacement non-factory Haartz brand also, from previous notes. The cubby box top has been recovered so leather is not original from earlier shrunken shots and the trunk trim looks replaced. Figure carpets likely replaced so what original is left? Maybe dash pad and a few pieces of foot well trim? I would be talking to my lawyers about that description as misrepresentation. Gotta love XKEData filing stuff like this on the record so wise guys years hyping a car later are shown up if they claim excess originality.

Oh man, I really hate that! It should be a punishable crime to remove and throw away original essential components just like that! The seats were "perfect". Mine are more worn than those were, but fortunately previous owners were not stupid, the same thing for the hood, yeah the plastic window was perhaps a bit yellow after 40+ years, but so what! I just hope that the value (mental, not monetary, I'm not selling my car again!) of genuine factory components will be recognized in the future. The front carpets have been lost, but pretty much everything else, including all other carpets, hardura, cardboard and boot carpet are 41 years old on 1S20183. ;) Cheers! (oh the wheels are new too, but original size and look, original spinners etc.)

I have to admit that when I first heard the price this car sold for I was in disbelief and thought "who would be that crazy"... But after looking into it more maybe he wasn't crazy at all. Another very original S1 4.2 roadster offered at the Monterey RM auction sold for even a higher price and that car wasn't as detailed as this car, but it sold for more. There was a Mercedes 190 SL that sold for more then either of the XKE's so that's three separate cars selling at different auctions commanding these seeming very high prices. In reality, all three of these cars sold for what the current market has valued them at. It seems to me that the values have followed the entire collector car market so maybe the buyers were making a wise investment being how difficult it is to find genuinely good original cars today. The real tragedy in all this is that someone who wants one of these cars because they want to use and enjoy it (not just for an investment) is very quickly being priced out of the market. So regardless if we agree the cars are valued at the prices they sold for at Monterey we have to except that it is the current market value. All this is just my option but maybe it will give everyone reading this a different perspective.

1967 Jaguar E-Type

Chassis no. 1E15099

€230,000 - 280,000

US$ 260,000 - 310,000

The Monaco Sale 'Les Grandes Marques à Monaco'

Manufactured in 1967, this left-hand drive 'Series 1' roadster was built for export to the USA and was despatched to Jaguar Cars, New York on 29th March of that year. Originally finished in the very rare 'triple black' colour scheme (exterior, interior and hood), this E-Type was first owned by California Freezing & Storage of Watsonville, California and is a desirable, rust-free 'black plate' car. It comes with a very rare and much sought-after factory hardtop, and also features a Becker Europa TR radio, lady's footrest, and chromed wire wheels.

Fully serviced and detailed by Jaguar specialists at Classic Showcase in Oceanside, California, it was subsequently shown at the Dana Point Concours in June 2013, receiving a well justified '1st in Class' award. Later that same year the current vendor purchased the E-Type at an auction in the USA and brought it to the UK, where it was registered on 1st November 2013. The car has been kept in professional dry storage since then. Accompanying documentation consists of a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, sundry maintenance invoices, an expired MoT certificate (2014), a UK V5C registration document, and an MoT valid until 18th February 2017. The car also comes with a handbook and maintenance sheet.

With some 51,900 miles recorded, this well maintained E-Type Roadster has been preserved in highly original condition and has to be a strong contender at any concours. Finished in its original 'triple black' colour scheme, it affords the prospect of pleasurable summer driving as well as being a potential long-term investment for the discerning collector.
