Car on BAT
bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-jaguar-xke-coupe-series-ii/
Current Bid: $30,500 Ends In: 3 days

Auction description:
Lot #13248
Seller: bonzer76
Location: Laguna Hills, California 92653
Chassis: P2R28633
90k Miles Shown, TMU
4.2-Liter DOHC Inline-Six
4-Speed Manual Transmission Refurbished in the Early 2000s
New Fuel Pump
New Brake/Clutch Master Cylinders
Replacement Wire Wheels
British Racing Green/Suede Green
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1971 Jaguar XKE Coupe is a Series II example powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in British Racing Green over a Suede Green interior, this car was refurbished in the early 2000s with new paint, interior, and a rebuilt engine and transmission. Purchased by the seller in 2018 after over a decade of disuse by its previous owner, the car was just serviced in preparation for sale with a new HARDI fuel pump, new brake and clutch master cylinders, carburetor floats, and more. This XKE is now being offered with photos of the refurbishment, tools, jack, and a clean California title in the seller's name.

This car was reportedly disassembled and repainted in its original shade of British Racing Green during a refurbishment in the early 2000s carried out by the previous owner. Brightwork, glass, and seals were reportedly replaced at this time.

The replacement 15″ chrome wire wheels and Michelin X Redline radials are said to have been installed at the time of refurbishment, as were new brake lines and some suspension components. The brakes were reportedly replaced over 15 years ago, and maintenance in 2018 included a new brake master cylinder and booster.

The interior is trimmed in Suede Green leather with newer upholstery, door panels, and carpets, all reportedly sourced from G.W. Bartlett Co. during the refurbishment, and photos in the gallery below show the interior during the work. The air conditioning system is said to be intact, but not functional, and moth damage to the headliner is visible in images below.

Front carpets are protected by new rubber floor mats, and this car is equipped with power steering and a 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel. The 5-digit odometer is inoperable and shows 90k miles, with total mileage unknown. The speedometer is also inoperable and the tachometer is described as working intermittently.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six, 4-speed manual transmission, and rear end were reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment in the early 2000s. New wiring from SNG Barratt and a new clutch were also installed at this time. Maintenance performed during current ownership is said to include:

New SU-style HARDI fuel pump
New carburetor floats
New clutch master and slave cylinders
Cleaned fuel tank
New fuel filters and fuel line
New hoses
New battery
Added transmission and rear end fluid

Photographs chronicling the refurbishment performed by the previous owner are included in the sale, as are tools and a jack.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
