This example has been restored to a point that would make Enzo's jaw drop once again. Purchased from its original owner in 1985 by Brent Query of Brent's Auto Restoration in Rochelle, IL it had only 30,000 miles on the clock and changed hands for a mere $5500. His intent was to take this original, undamaged, rust free car and give it a proper restoration. He disassembled the car, meticulously labeled every part, and then put the project on hold. Life being what it is, 20 years passed and Brent decided the disassembled and unrestored XKE was best in the hands of someone who would finish the project.
In 2005 Frank Cassata of Machesney Park, IL purchased the complete car and set about a 5-year ground-up restoration. With assistance from Don Ellefson of Exclusive Auto Restoration, Frank went into great detail making sure the E-Type was as correct and original as possible. Many of the cars original parts were refurbished and reinstalled. All additional parts were sourced from reputable suppliers like Welsh Enterprises, XKE Unlimited, and Terry's Jaguar.
A keen eye was kept on bringing the XKE to level it was on the day it was delivered from the factory. The factory correct red leather, hardura, moquette and carpet were sourced for the interior. Painted in its original black and complemented with the stunning red interior this Jaguar is a show winner.
As with any great restoration the beauty isn't only skin deep. The magnificent 3.8 liter inline 6 was completely rebuilt along with its 4 speed gear box. Brakes, cooling, and electrical were all sorted and finished to show standards. A few modern updates were tastefully added such as stainless steel brake hoses and exhaust. The car comes with its tools, manual, and complete restoration receipts showing the extent, detail, and time invested into the restoration.

this is one nice car. I could hardly find anything that was not proper and correct. But, what is that pipe above the Dr. Side brake booster? I love this restoration.

THIS CAR
According to its JDHT certificate, chassis 880090 completed assembly on September 4, 1963, finished in black paint and trimmed with a red leather interior, a color scheme it continues to wear today. Dispatched four days later to Jaguar Cars New York, the E-Type was purchased new by Albert Adelman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A member of Northwestern University's 1936 Big Ten Championship football team, Adelman spurned an NFL contract and managed his family's cleaning business, eventually commissioning Frank Lloyd Wright to build him a home in Fox Point, Wisconsin, bordering Lake Michigan.
The Jaguar remained in Mr. Adelman's care until 1985, when it was purchased by Brent Query of Rochelle, Illinois, who began disassembling the car for a full restoration. When Mr. Query offered the roadster 20 years later, the restoration was still incomplete, and buyer Frank Cassata of nearby Machesney Park then made significant strides in finishing the work. Enlisting the assistance of Don Ellefson's Exclusive Auto Restoration in Rockton, Illinois, the owner set about a five-year restoration that included a correct new interior and paint, as well as significant attention to the brakes, suspension, exhaust, and electrical system.
In 2012, the E-Type was acquired by Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, California, and the company's skilled technicians put the finishing touches on the restoration, including a sympathetic rebuild of the original Jaguar engine and gearbox. By 2014, the faithfully restored E-Type was sold to Richard Griot, founder of the well-known Griot's Garage car-care products. The roadster remained in his personal collection until mid-2015, when it was purchased by the consignor, a marque enthusiast in Florida who presented the car at the 2015 Winter Park Concours d'Elegance.
In March 2016, the E-Type scored 989.7 points (out of 1,000) at the JCNA concours in Celebration, Florida, and in November it tallied 995.4 points at the club event at Fort Myers. The consignor says he has consistently endeavored to correct any minor presentational flaws that resulted in point deductions.
Accompanied by a jack, tools, and manuals, and documented with restoration invoices and previous titles, this remarkable E-Type would make a stellar addition to any collection.

This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was distributed through Jaguar Cars New York and delivered to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where it reportedly remained with its first owner until 1985. Chassis 880090 is said to have resided with the second owner for over two decades before undergoing a refurbishment process commissioned by the third owner. Reported work consisted of refinishing the body in black and reupholstering the red leather interior along with overhauling the suspension, brakes, and exhaust system. The car was acquired in 2012 by Canepa Design, who commissioned rebuilds of the 3.8-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. It was later exhibited in concours events before being recently acquired by the selling dealer in Massachusetts. The most recent service in March 2022 included a brake fluid flush and an oil change. This Series I E-Type is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service invoices, a tool roll, a knock-off hammer, a service manual, and a Massachusetts title describing the car as a 1964 model.
The Series I E-Type was equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was reportedly repainted in black by Don Ellefson’s Exclusive Auto Restoration in Rockton, Illinois, under previous ownership. Additional equipment includes a black soft top, a louvered hood, a driver-side mirror, and central dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wear BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. A matching spare wheel mounted with an older tire is stored in the rear compartment. The suspension was overhauled under previous ownership, along with the four-wheel disc brake system. A brake fluid flush was performed in March 2022.
The cabin has been re-trimmed in red leather with matching carpets and features fixed-back bucket seats, a passenger-side grab handle, a heater, and an aftermarket Motorola AM/FM radio.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline. Center-mounted instruments include gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 41k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8L twin-cam straight-six is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment in 2012 by Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, California, and is equipped with triple SU carburetors and polished valve covers. An oil change was carried out in March 2022.
Engine number RA3462-9 is stamped on the cylinder head and matches the engine number indicated on the chassis plate and the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was also reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment work in 2012.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date of September 4, 1963 and lists original colors, equipment, and identification numbers as well as distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York.
Service and refurbishment records, a knock-off hammer, a service manual, and a tool roll are also included in the sale.
Chassis number 880090 is stamped on the front chassis rail and the under-hood identification plate, while the Massachusetts title displays the VIN L80090.
