Sent to me, presumably from the current owner:
Here is some additional information on this car: Dispatched from the factory on June 9, 1961 Originally sold to McLeans Magazine, most likely used by an executive Body color: Opalescent Bronze Interior: Biscuit Hood: Fern Gray The above information from a Heritage Certificate issued on Jan 12, 1979 ordered by the owner at that time. Some incorrect information on this car. Most likely second owner was Ross Pearce of Timmons, Ontario as he writes to third owner in 1971 asking if he wants to buy frame for top still in his garage. Third owner William Foster from October, 1969 until about 2002. He kept good records on the car, especially during the early years of ownership. The car was never brokered by Bramhall as it was sold through to present owner in Calgary in 2002. It is proabably the second XKE left hand drive in Canada and most likely the earliest surviving as 875004 was believed to have been raced and destroyed. The car retains its original engine, body, and chassis and is currently being restored to concours condition in the Calgary area.

Original city was not Calgary, that is where the car is now. Original city was Toronto, Ontario, Canada to McLeans Magazine.

53rd LHD Roadster produced, "external bonnet latch car". Ordered at the 1961 Paris Motor Show by RalphAllen, editor of the Canadian Maclean's magazine. The name of the magazine is named as the first registered owner. Was refinished and partially restored before final assembly, and sorting was completed by RM Auto Restoration. Color is now Dark Blue with Biscuit interior (this was not a standard color combination in 1961). Presented at RM Auctions: Amelia Island, March 12 2011, estimate $ 120.000-$ 140.000

Car to be at auction 3/11 www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm Auction description: 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster Chassis No. 875053 Estimate: $120,000-$140,000 US AUCTION DATE: Saturday, March 12, 2011 - An original LHD, external bonnet-latch, flat-floor car, the 53rd E-Type produced - Ordered new at the 1961 Paris Salon by the Editor of Maclean's magazine - Assembled, trimmed and sorted by the professionals at RM Auto Restoration Retaining its original engine, this original left-hand drive E-Type Roadster is the 53rd constructed - an extremely early and very desirable external bonnet-latch, flat-floor car. According to correspondence with Jaguar, it was one of the earliest E-Types exported to Canada, and perhaps the first. At the 1961 Paris Salon, it was ordered new by Maclean's magazine editor Ralph Allen. The magazine is named as the first registered owner. The E-Type was refinished and partially restored before final assembly, and sorting was completed by RM Auto Restoration. First, the paint received a show-quality color sanding and buffing. Mechanical sorting included inspection of the entire electrical system, replacement of the fuel pump, carburetor repairs and repairs to the brakes and clutch, which were bled and checked for leaks. A new original-style battery was also installed. The cockpit, dash, heater, instruments and all associated items were reassembled. The convertible top mechanism and latches were reassembled with some new parts sourced and others fabricated as required. The new convertible top was expertly trimmed and installed, window surrounds were fitted, and a new top boot was fabricated and installed. The rest of the interior was completed with new door panels and trim, new weather stripping was installed, and the doors and windows were precisely set up for proper sealing and function. All exterior trim and ancillary items were reinstalled, and finishing touches include new engine bay decals, restored and new exterior brightwork, and proper new chrome wire wheels, knock-offs and Dunlop tires. Simply stunning throughout, this 3.8-liter "external bonnet latch" E-Type Roadster is unquestionably one of the earliest and most desirable examples of the breed.

correction on current color: exterior: Indigo interior: Biscuit ( this color combination was not standard in 1961, Indigo was available with Red or Light Blue interior. It should be noted that special color and trim combinations could be ordered for the 3.8 and subsequent models)

From Ross Pearce, in Timmins, Ontario, this car was purchased by Jim Tucker of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, mid to late '60's before being sold to William Foster. Was worked on by my father during that period of time.
