42,861 MILES, ON EBAY 02/08, SELL WRITES: This 1974 Jaguar XKE - 12 Cylinder is a great original with 42,861 actual miles. The car is completely original and in great mechanical condition. The car has just had a new stainless steel exhaust front to back installed. The carburators have been rebuilt due to years in storage. The car drives and the manual transmission shifts very smoothly. All the brakes work. The outside paint is in good condition with a few marks here and there. The car has no rust and to our knowledge has never been in an accident. The interior is in very good condition, both seats and carpet. Both headrests are there, but do need some attention. The dashboard is in good shape...all lights, indicators, gauges, and switches are working. The AC blows but will need to be charged. The convertible top is in excellent condition is black in color. The rear in the convertible top is slightly fogged. The hard top that goes with the car is in excellent condition and the rear window is in excellent shape. All chrome on the car is in good to excellent condition and no pitting or rust. The glass on the car is in excellent condition with no scratches. The engine compartment is in absolutely original condition. The sheet metal under the spare tire is in very good condition. The orginal boot for the convertible top, the knockoff wheel tools along with the jack are in place. All the original keys and original owners manual as shown in the pictures are there. The car has been owned by a local individual for approximately 20 years. The car can be seen at almost any time with some notice.

Current bid $14,100 reserve not met, 21 bids, 8 days left in auction. Car now located in Lewisboro, New York.

    Sellers description:
This remarkable car is in exceptional condition. This was stored in a garage for some time before I got it. It was nearly original, except the paint, which was a very good paint job in the original color, and then hand sanded for a gorgeous shine.

I have one of the best mechanics for Jaguars anywhere (his own first car was a V12 XKE), I told him I wanted a reliable driving car, done right, he did a nose off service where he removed, flushed and repainted the radiator and shrouds, he replaced: all the hoses and belts and water pump and engine seals, a new starter and alternator, new slave and master cylinders, new power steering hoses and brake hoses, Spax front shocks, ball joints etc., all were replaced. He recharged the AC which works perfectly. I removed and cleaned the inside of the fuel tank and installed a new sender unit (ask me about this, it might need adjustment) and cleaned the entire fuel delivery systems.

The engine is incredible. No oil leaks, no smoking. A V12 whirs to life when you start it and while cruising, and then roars when you put your foot down. Oil pressure is perfect, 60-80 when cold with 20-50W and 40 PSI at idle when fully warm. New Dunlop tires and tubes, new battery, and a full stainless exhaust system were installed. Everything works correctly, even the clock. It starts right up, runs incredibly, sounds incredible, drives wonderfully. The mechanic loves this car, which could be an everyday driver, or your weekend show car in an unrestored class? I’d just drive it, often. Every time I open the garage I smile just looking at it.

The interior is in VG condition. One tear in the driver seat needs sewing. The rest of the interior and carpets are excellent as are the mats. All the interior fabrics and dash are excellent too, They are very black though the pictures make them look grayish, the seats and head rests are excellent and comfortable too. One armrest needs repair, a bit of leather cleaner and you'd be good to go. The new paint matches the factory silver and matches the original trunk and sills (sills are perfect, not painted and no rust, the trunk is perfect and no rust.) There are chips on the edge of the bonnet from rubbing the cowl, this was re shimmed with new factory shims. Minor superficial rust near the battery and in a few engine compartment areas, but no rot at all. It would probably clean up with a scrubby. A few paint scratches, for instance the previous owner rested the hard top on the back of the car. A few hundred dollars at a good body shop would make it 100% stunning.

The soft top is very good with a clear window. The tonneau is great and the matching hard top is excellent too. I’ll deliver the car, up to 250 miles for no charge, (I’ll trailer it or drive it to you, your preference) then take the bus home if I have too. Or I can arrange shipping, even out of the country. If you want a mechanic’s evaluation, I’ll drive it to a mechanic of your choice for a review for you. If you want to see the car, I live 50 miles north of NYC in Westchester NY. This is not a perfect show car, and you'll want to dress and polish it, this is an excellent candidate for a clean it and drive it car, or a light restoration if inclined. It is not messed up by bad mechanics, does not look like it was ever hit, and for a 35 year old car is really stunning.

The driving. What a blast. I mostly drove it with the top down regardless of temperature, the cockpit is comfortable and you sit so low, the seats hug you, the panel has rowsof switches and gauges, I think this is the closest to an airplane cars ever got. And then you have that cowl and that roar when you want it. This is elegance and performance and speed and grace and quality, all in a sleek nimble little body. The handling is lovely too.

Current bid $8,988 reserve not met, 7 bids 8 days left in auction.

    Sellers description:
This one has been in my family for three years. It is original at 43K miles, it had been garaged for a long time, not sure how long. Since we got it we did just about everything. The short version is first, I've written the service list below.

This car has undergone extensive replacement of all rubber parts and verification of all electrical and plumbing as working systems, including a full carb rebuild, all hoses ( radiation, heat, brake lines, etc.)

You will have several choices as to what you do with it, here is my suggestion, drive it for the fall and enjoy it, then schedule a really good paint job during February. During that time recover the seats and do a couple of other minor things. As it is all here in great condition you would be able to do any work, easier and for much less than a high mileage car that has been buggered by non Jaguar enthusiast mechanics.

My mechanic's name is Zen, his first car when he was a teen was a V12 E Type, he loves them, and when I asked him to help get this car drivable he gladly took the project, I've spend $20,000 fixing and replacing the mechanical systems and the car really is great. It starts right up, purrs until you step on it and then it roars, it is supple to drive, steering is light and crisp, the clutch is not to heavy and everything works as intended. Now it needs paint and some interior but I am out of cash, so my loss, your gain.

I am about 50 miles north of New York City in South Salem NY. You can come look, or ask me to bring it somewhere if close enough. (I'll drive it with the top down and a big smile).

Caveats: I installed a new sender in the gas tank and it needs a bit more calibration, the fuel gauge works, and is consistent, it just needs to be more accurate with the fuel level. Right now 1/4 is really empty, that is easy to fix and I'll do that for you if you want. I installed new foam and leather cover headrests 2 years ago along with a shift boot cover. The drivers seat cover is torn. the interior, rugs and mats are good. The top is worn and the rear window is partially fogged, the toneau is excellent, and I have a matching hard top which is excellent. There is a little rust at the junction of the front edge of the rear fenders to the sill, the painter tried to blend that area and it did not hold, I can't find any serious rust anywhere else. Yes it was resprayed and pretty well, but it needs a new one. There are a couple of scratches and tiny imperfections. You can decide how to fix them, I've included some of the flaw pictures and can send more if you are that serious. You will find me frank and honest, I don't want to falsely represent this as perfect, it is not, but it is excellent.

If I had a lot of money or time or lots of extra garage space, or lived in Marin or Miami, I'd keep it (even the Air Conditioning is excellent). Unfortunately I don't. I've got about $60K in cash, plus time, into it. I'm reasonable, and fair, and will sell it for less than that, as that where the market is, but don't try to beat me up too much either. I love the car and will sell it to a reasonable person first.

The list of repairs: I bought this with my brother, it was said to be a nice running driver, we discovered it was 100% original. Too original. Soon after we got it I started replacing things that could become problems. We bought most of our parts from XKs unlimited (www.xks.com) they have had everything we needed in stock and have offered great technical help. First we did hoses and belts with all clamps as a kit, including all heater hoses and the water pump and radiator core, Then the alternator and belts, starter motor, SS exhaust, engine mounts, slave cylinder, master cylinder, brake lines, new Koni classic fronts the rears were still good, new tires and tubes, a new electronic ignition, distributor and advance system, a "manifolds off" carb and top of engine cleaning and rebuild with removal of most of the emission control junk (it is all in the box of spares). The AC was recharged two years ago and works great, the radio works but who would listen to a radio in a car like this ? I have receipts, but don't waste my time asking for copies unless you want the car and are willing to discuss acctually buying it.

This is not my first British vehicle, I've worked on Ferrari and Lotus and Triumph and BSA motorcycles, I know how to maintain vintage, Lucas and quality items.
